As I may have mentioned, I along with my daughter, have done quite a bit of volunteering at the local Red Cross shelter at Kelly USA/USAF Base. We are done and here's why: Over the weekend I went down for a few hours. I walked by this guy who was laying on his cot. He said "Yo...comes here and help me" I walked over to see what he needed. He had dropped some loose change under his cot and said "YO...some of my funds rolled under mys bed...gets it fo me." OK. Maybe, I though, he was disabled so I started to "gets it fo" him but then I realized that I just saw this guy out playing hoops in the recreation area. So I saz "Yo manz...getz yo lazy ass up and dooz it fo yo self." He was not happy with this more than sarcastic responce and wanted to file a complaint with my supervisor. I expalined to him that being a volunteer, the closest thing to a supervisor I had was a fellow named George W. Bush. He said...(this is no SHi&) I wantz to see him now! I explained the obvious as well as the fact that I was in fact their to assist he and the others as I could, I was by no means his "personal assistant." Many there now are simply there to take advantage of the situation. While I feel for what they've been through, I am done with the remaining "victims" who are choose to be "victims". Done. Finished. No Mo!

Sorry to hear James. I and my staff have had similar experiences. One joker even stole the gas cans that were strapped to our busses while we were trying to get residents out of Houston! In restrospect, however, we were better off not have a rolling bomb I guess.

I fly out to Dallas tomorrow and hed down to Houston. I also plan on going to Lake Charles and Beaumont. My asset manager who lives in Dallas is planning to take his little friend with him; his buddy Mr. Glock!

Hope we don't get stopped by the National Guard.

We've come across similar situations.

We had nothing but good experiences with the evacuees from NO. But this latest round, hubby ran 48-hour flights evacuating patients from Beaumont and Lake Charles prior to Rita. These people were verbally abusive and downright mean to the entire flight crew. I told him they should have dropped them off the plane in the bayou somewhere.

Whatever happened to gratitude????

Stacy

Stacy,

I sure could have used your hubby last Friday. We chartered a 737 that was supposed to fly out of Ellington in Houston but there were no pilots available! Hence, we used buses to evacuate. It took 16 hours to get to Dallas! Your husband was doing a noble task. Your must have been on edge.
