Default HUMMER Helps Friends of the Rubicon

Being part of the HUMMER team means more than building, designing and selling the most capable off-road vehicles (ORV). It also comes with the responsibility of educating HUMMER owners about responsible off-roading, as well as working to help keep designated ORV trails maintained for current and future generations of off-roaders. HUMMER recently became the first automaker to lend a hand to Friends of the Rubicon (FOTR), a non-profit volunteer organization committed to maintaining the world-renowned Rubicon Trail.

Not only did HUMMER donate funds and supplies to support the organization?s efforts to maintain the Rubicon Trail and the surrounding ecosystems, but HUMMER engineers, marketing staff and even The Rover, a ?board reports? enthusiast who attends events across the country in an H3, participated in FOTR?s Rubicon Work Day on July 22.

Kevin Dinger, program engineering manager-Small/Mid-Size Trucks and Development Engineers Todd Hubbard and Daryl Ehrlich attended the FOTR Work Day. ?HUMMER and Engineering use the Rubicon Trail during development to test the vehicles? capabilities of handling tough off-road maneuvers,? said Hubbard. ?We want to continue to use the trail for development purposes, so it?s important that we participate in the restoration efforts to ensure the trail is put back to its natural state.?

?Working with the National Forestry Service, the team used three H3s to move logs and boulders to block two unsuitable routes ? forming natural barricades to prevent further trail erosion ? leaving a single designated
trail,? Ehrlich added. ?This portion of the trail is now being referred to as 'HUMMER Bend' by the FOTR,? Ehrlich said.
The GM HUMMER team admitted it was ?cool? to hear praises from other FOTR participants, including Jeep employees, for HUMMER's contribution to the cause. HUMMER is the first corporate/brand presence to help in the preservation efforts of the Rubicon through funding and volunteerism.

Del Albright, founder of FOTR, summed it up when he said that anyone can write a check, but it says a lot about the commitment of HUMMER to off-roading and the environment when its employees will give up their own time to come and personally help maintain the trails.

Why can't I get a job like this at GM???

Yeah they were up there when we went. But they came in on the Tahoe side of the trail and we never saw them.

Good for Hummer and GM! Hopefully more automakers will follow suit.
