Default Fair trade?

Hey all, the time has come & I'm wondering if I'm getting a fair deal for trading in my baby:

-supercharged Pewter 2003 H2 Lux
-105k miles
-easily a "good" KBB rating
-power everything, leather, moonroof, 37" BFGs, Airraid intake, MAgnaflow exhaust, roof lights, brush guard, insane custom stereo, blacked out, alarm/remote start
-1 spot of rust in rear quarter panel

They're offering $12k. Whatcha think???

seems low to but they tell you it is the economy is bad, the truck is too cool for just anyone, and you live in the wrong part of the country

I don't know. The thing is aftermarket mods don't add value to the vehicle so a good chunk of those mods you listed do nothing for the trade.

You're better off pulling mods off and selling them on the forums them trading the rig in completely stock.

Also being a 2003 with 105k miles you're slightly under what you should technically be at BUT its almost an 11 year old vehicle with over 100k miles. Not many people are looking for something that old let alone that many miles.

You could always check other dealerships as some may offer more.

When I traded in my 2006 GTO for my H2 the dealership owner who I've met went nuts over the goat. Everytime told the salesman the trade was too low he raised the offer until we were well over KBB so you just have to find that right buyer!

Good luck.

Personally, I think it is way low.
WAY LOW.

Given I agree LoJac, part the mods... not because I want them but because the dealers will give you nothing for them and then put them as big sellers to the person that does buy it. Most none modded 2003 H3s with low miles (and yes I think 105k is considered low miles... for the years it is old) I think I have seen easily fetching 18-20k and those are usually base models.

I am a firm believer that if I have a vehicle to trade in, that the dealer should give me the right price for it just like I am giving them the right price for theirs. I negotiated for almost a month to get the H2, trading in my 2006 Tundra. They started at 8k for mine and 25k for theirs. We ended at 15k for mine and 21k for theirs (and I still think that I wasnt getting the right price for my truck, but it was only off fair value by a thousand or so). But it wasnt bad since the whole deal was done sight unseen... the dealer was about 2 hours away

Remember, they have a car.... you have the money. They need the money.... you dont exactly need the car. Money can buy you anything, the car cant buy you anything. They are never doing you a favor... actually you are doing them the favor. That mentality will let you win everytime. Dont be afraid to walk.

Now if you were trading this in on a rare car... thats a different story, but remember there are plenty out there. Even my two weekend cars are 1 of a kinds, but I bought them like I would buy an everyday car.

Best of luck....

And let me/us know if you wanna sell the light bar, intake, exhaust, and stereo

Thanks for the advice.
I just did a search & found dealers in the area are selling similar H2s for $15k, so I don't feel too bad about the $12k trade. Seems like the best way to get a real-world #.
And yes, I'm pulling whatever I can out of the truck

Well again, maybe it is me but I dont go with what they sell for or anything like that... I go by what the best I can get for it. Based on a quick run of KBB private seller value, your vehicle is worth AT LEAST 15-17k without any of your add ons.

So again if I was going to sell my truck to the dealership, that is at least what I would want. And of course, if I am trading it in.... I would try for more. Why give them any of your hard earned money easy. If you trade it in for 12 when you should have gotten 15-17, thats like just giving them 3-5k... and if you are giving away money that easy... I will send your my address so you can cut me a check.

Guaranteed with the economy and the end of the month and the end of the year coming up, they will give you more reasons to buy a car from them if you hold out. It is just about being the one who has the upper hand.
Again, they have a car and thats it. And you cant pay bills or employees or put a car in the bank, but you can do all that with money. So remember youre in the drivers seat, you are 1 of very few looking to spend money, they are one of many looking to sell a car.

Personally I hate stealerships and I figure why not make them sweat it out.
Remember stealerships have all these nice buildings and equipment and staff based off the fact that they do their best to sell people cars for the maximum profit, not the lowest profit.

I know I will be watching for your for sale posts on your goodies ;-)

I agree 100% with the above.

I got 12k for mine when I traded it in and yours is way way nicer.

way too low bro. I bought a 2003 hummer h2 6 months ago with 142 miles. (wont say for how much) but I sold it a week ago completely stock for $13,500 cash. Posted it on craigslist and sold it in 3 days instantly.

PS: it had 144,801 miles when I sold it =)

I agree here, private sell it and get all the money it is worth not nickel and dime it with the Kelly Blue books.
Somebody who loves it like you do is out there to buy it too.
