Hi,
I've been watching this site for awhile and think it's great. I have a question about the factory nav and the Eclipse AVN2454. IF anyone have this in their H2 please give some feedback.

Thanks Bob,
Is the Nav the same as the factory nav, the lay out is almost the same. The icon looks the same too. Do you have any pic so that I can see how it look istalled?

Nixxxster,

That was my issue for several month but in the end, I went with the factory touch screen. I did this primarily because I wanted to retain the steering controls and ease of installation. However, I do regret the decision. On the factory unit you can play only a single disc at a time so if your nav disc is in, you can't listen to a CD unless you have a changer. Also, I found the reception to be very poor. The antenna is mounted in the dash and with our vertical windshields, the system had its difficulties.

I hear now with the Eclipse there is a way to get the steering controls to work. Also, it is a very sophisticated unit that does more for the money. I ended up selling my TNR at a huge loss. I did keep the TNR I bought for the Yukon as it doesn't have any reception issues. Still, I wish I had bought an Eclipse for that as well.

BTW - My friend has an Eclipse in his subaru STi and it is an outstanding unit!

Bob, did you do the install? Was it difficult? Where is the antenna mounted?

I'm not familiar with how the factory nav works, but I do know that I find the Eclipse Nav SUPER easy to use. The DVD mapping disc is awesome as well because it's pretty extensive for my city up in Canada, so I'm sure the mapping would be great in the US. Unlike the factory Nav, you can listen to a CD/MP3 WHILE the Nav is running. I've heard you need a seperate CD changer to do this with the factory.
Also, the DVD player is great. I have it going to a visor monitor as well as the 2 headrest monitors and the picture is sweet.
I'll try to take some pics today and post them.

Hi kacyk,

I had a local stereo shop do the install, since I added amps, new speakers and 3 monitors. Doing it all would be a little out of my league.
Also, with the PAC SWI-X, I've retained my steering wheel controls.

I didn't as of yet, though according to the PAC guy I only need to hook up a PAC OS-2 interface and On-Star will work again.

At the time, I didn't care about On-Star as I had it in my Tahoe Z-71 and my Denali but never used it. Now, though, I'm thinking it might be a good idea in case something happens while I'm wheeling in the woods and if my cell doesn't work?!

HummBob,
Excuse my ignorance, but what is PAC? My On-Star isn't working because I have the Eclipse Nav. The dealer tells me that it is working but they can't get sound and there is nothing they can do about it. The line will open, but I can't hear On-Star and they can't hear me. My dealer can't figure out how to get it linked into my sound. Doesn't make sense to me If there is a way around this I would love to be able to tell them that there is an option. Being able to have my steering controls back would be great too!

Hi Christa,

PAC is Pacific Accessory Corporation.

Most Audio SUPERSTORES should be able to order from them.

According to their tech support that I e-mailed, if you ONLY changed the head unit, you need to get the OS-2Bose interface, if you changed out all the Bose speakes as I did, you need the OS-2 interface.

Hope this helps

Here ya go Nixxxster

Installed Photo's

Oh yeah, I forgot till I used it the other day, the Nav for the Eclipse also has voice guidance as well, I'm not sure if the factory Nav does?

It's pretty cool, tells you to "Turn right in half a mile etc."

Nothing neccesary, just a COOL feature

Thanks HummBob!!
I think this will help a lot. We've been fighting with the dealer for a couple weeks now. They promised that OnStar would be working as part of our sale, but haven't been able to deliver yet. I hope this is the fix we need. Thanks again!!

Bob,
Do you have the backup camera or a remote with the Eclipse?

I do have the remote as you NEED it to program the PAC SWI-X steering wheel interface. I don't remember what the model number was, but it is a thin credit card like remote. There is only ONE Eclipse dealer in my city of 700,000 people(go figure), and they COULDN'T order me the remote because it wasn't on their order sheet(TOOLS), so I ended up buying it on e-Bay.

As far as the BEC104 Rear View Camera, the same company here, A & B Sound, cannot get it for me, so I'm actually getting one off of e-Bay as well, I'm just waiting to hear back from the seller with a shipping quote to Canada.

I have the BEC104 camera (and a AVN8804). Check this thread out for some pictures:
http://elcova.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/6706011751/m/5...841039601#4841039601

I also used a PAC SWI-X interface so that I could use my steering wheel controls with the Eclipse head unit:
http://elcova.com/groupee/forums/a/tpc/f/6706011751/m/7.../746104788#746104788

I used Peripheral GMAH24B and GMAHCM units to interface to the factory Bose amp and retain chimes and Onstar (although I removed the Onstar unit). I connected the factory roof mounted Onstar antenna to the Eclipse AVN8804HD unit I have and the navigation works great.
