my 3 might be leaving me
I'm not much for one to hold onto a vehicle for very long. So I think its time for me to loose the H3 and try on some new shoes. I spent the weekend at the BMW dealership. If they come back to me with a good offer on a 07' 328si, my truck is gone. She's an awsome truck! I really did everything right on it. But it's time for someone else to appreciate it as much as I did.

Re: my 3 might be leaving me
You have to do what's good for you! If I was staying in Alaska, I'd keep the Hummer. As for BMWs, I've owned three and currently have an M5 that I love like a third son. BMWs are VERY EXPENSIVE to maintain. Some parts can only be obtained from a BMW dealer and I get them online from a dealer that ships to save coin.
Some downfalls to used BMWs are the clutch, the CATS and O2 sensors, the VANOs (if you go with a VANOS engine), the windshield (outrageously expensive 1400 on a 3 series and around 1700 on a 5 series), the brakes, and the i-drive system. The hedgehog was particularly troublesome on my E36 (there's tons written about this on BMW forums on the Internet - also known as the FSU)and is a very common problem on the 3 and 5 series and you would hate to be without heat in Alaska and most owners keep a spare one in the glove box. With that being said, there is nothing like a winding road in a BMW on a sunny day. The perfect combination to me is a Hummer and BMW, (an older Corvette too). With that being said, once you drive a BMW particularly an M series or a 3 series manual, you will never want to drive anything else.

Re: my 3 might be leaving me
I appreciate the input. I've been working crappy 24hr days. The BMW dealership called me yesterday. So we'll see what's up.

Re: my 3 might be leaving me
My wifes old 528 was a POS after 50K miles. A guy I work with has nothing but trouble with his 05 328 vert... I would rather drive a jeep. Just my 2 cents and keep the change.

Re: my 3 might be leaving me
Rred, how are things going with the H3. Have you considered an Alpha or a newer H3, or an H2 over the Beemer? I was at Elmendorf for almost a year in the late 60s and would have given anything to have a vehicle like the Hummer to "go exploring in." A friend had a surplus military Jeep and that's where my love affair with 4 X 4s started. In those days, the only way to get to King Salmon was in a 4X4 and they were rare very rare then.

I think you'll miss this when it snows or if you want to go to Denali!

I own a 1990 735il for 10 years, she was a dream to drive, and only a few minor mechanical problems nothing more then 1000.00 dollars.
