Now do they say that happened because the fluid leaked out and then the thing broke? What was the problem that lead to it?

It was a manufacturing defect. 1st something smelled like natural gas, then smelled a burning smell then the transmission went into neutral and the the H2 stopped. Once in the garage the mechanic saw the case cracked in two pieces. Look into this, this is a problem with over 140 H2's nation wide.

I was subject to the first stages of this. Mine was just a crack. As soon as I saw smoke I pulled over.
They replaced it. Took three weeks to get the part.

ALLEN...
Just curious. How were you able to find out about this problem with a 140 vehicles nation wide? Did Hummer tell you?
Thanks, Don

I heard of 140 H2's with this problem from a mechanic at the Dealership. Said he spoke to a Hummer Rep.

Those of you who had transfer case problems, what was your date of manufacture?

140 transfer case defect. Hummer said will sell 20000 H2s this year, that is 0.007%, if sold 7000 H2s by end of Oct, that is 2%. From the business point of view, I would think it is a totally acceptable rate to Hummer/GM, consider what a huge success Hummer H2 has been. Does not ease your pain if your Hummer has that problem, I am only speculating from the business perspective.

At 2% i don't think I will lose sleep wondering if my transfer case will fall out. But, if we hit 20% I might cancel my order wait and watch a while. Not much danger in that happening.

Allen,
I have had a whining sound for the past month and I finally took it to my local dealership today. They said "by the sound of things" that I may have a bad transfer case.
Did you have the same sound or circumstances?

No I did not. Funny thing happened today. While I was waiting on my Yellow H2 to get fixed (transfer case) the dealer said they would "let me out" of the contract on the yellow one and put me into a new white one that just came in. I said no thanks, I like yellow.....fast forward 1 wek, the white one they offered me went into the dealership on a flatbed...why you may ask....transfer case broke in half!!!
Glad I stuck with my yellow one!

Allen,
I wonder if Hummer Customer Service would be (or is) interested in this Forum --- especially on how people have been dealt with by the dealerships. It's sounding more and more like a con game.
By the way, I have a yellow H2 as well and I wouldn't trade it for any other color. Black would be the only second choice.
I should hear today from the dealership as to what problems they've found. Will keep posting.
