Default Transfer Case Info. Please >>

I had the problem listed in this forum concerning my transfer case having gear oil in it instead of transmission fluid. The mechanic flushed it out three times and it seems the 4wd lock position is kinda working itself out though he isn't so optomistic it will completely work itself back to normal.

First any suggestions on what else I kind do before opeing up the transfer case to see what the problem is?

Second how much is a transfer case? Can I just get the piece that may be worn in there or do I have to get the whole thing?

Third = I'm an idiot I know please any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

Its very likely your auto 4wd to 4wd lock shift fork is worn and wont allow it to complete the shift. The originals were a plastic fork and the new one is alloy. Just finished fixing one last week for the same problem.

Do you think it can be worked out???

When the mechanic was doing the flushes he said he had seen particles that looked like metal shavings. Any ideas?

Thing is with gear oil in the case it would have little to no lubrication cause the pump will not work with that thick of fluid. The fact it wont come out of 4 lock to awd leads me to believe its the shift fork or worn/stuck shift collar. Either way you likely have damage in the case. Could maybe start to work again or could get more expensive down the road. If it were me i would be taking it apart sooner than later

Finally have the hummer back from the mechanic the following items where done listed below. Everything works fine though the four wheel drive is still locked in position though I hope it works it self out in the near future or i'm going have to open the transfer case.

Moog idler arm
Moog pitman arm
Cognita kit
3 transmission flushes (too remove gear oil)
left front wheel bearing
PA inspection (nothing wrong)
Front diff. oil change

Price = $1400
