HELLO
Might be a dumb quetion, but here it goes. By taking off the top cover of the air filter box it looks like the air filter would get more air just like a regular aftermarket intake system. How would it affect or help if the cover is not put back?

With the cover off you will get all kinds of crap in there! Bad idea, esp. when mud gets sucked into your intake when your filter falls off. The filter doesn't clamp on and that cover keeps it in place. If you look inside on that cover, you will see two plastic point that stick out that keep your filter in place.

Did you felt any diffrence when you replace the filter? By assuming it was a direct fit from the OEM did you left the cover off? Dont really understand the diffrence if the cover is left off due that the system would work exactly as the K&N intake system with the filter expose, other than the diameter of the tube again the filter is still expose to hot air, water, dirt, and anything that reaches this area.

I believe the aftermarket kits replace the airbox with one that goes all the way up to the hood. There a rubber seal at the top to keep stuff out when the hood is closed.
Someone who has one could confirm this, or correct me if I'm wrong.

Leave cover off and pull hot air from engine compartment, lower fuel milage. Install Kit and seal to hood, more flow with cooler air=better fuel milage.
