Default transmission failed - 911

Wife was driving along up a hill at 25mph and the engine began to rev. The transmission will not engage. Engine idles fine but it will not go into any gear - engine just revs. She says she did not hear any unusual noises when it happened. The code reader did not detect any codes. Fluid appears to be fuller than normal - I think. We have not had this very long but I think I had checked the tranny fluid at purchase and it was normal. I have checked all the related fuses I can find. The previous owner had a magnacharger put on and also supposedly beefed up the transmission and put in a shift kit to handle the additional power. I do think it was somewhat abused by the previous owner but the transmission has never acted up in the 3000 miles we have driven. Vehicle is not under warranty and was 37k miles. Ideas? Is the tranny fried or could it be some electronic issue. What should I check? Any help is greatly appreciated? Thanks.

Sounds like a tranny failure to me...

have you tried driving in 2nd? Reverse?

When I got mine my fluid was low and the tranny would "clunk" when it shifted .

Did the proper tranny fill fluid procedure/check fluid level and it feel like an entire different truck.

I had an old GM oldsmobile (SP?) and same thing you are describing happened when the tranny failed....

Maybe someone else will chime in with some better news??

I would also say that your trans is likely shot, having the Maggie on there adds alot of torque, couple that with a heavy curb weight and the fact you said someone before you ragged on the truck a bit... Im not surprised it failed. A shift kit alone may have helped it live a bit longer but there is much more to properly beefing up that tranny to handle the extra power. Sucks to hear that it failed on you. I would find a reputable shop in your area that handles performance rebuilds.

Best of luck in getting it back on the road soon

Thanks for the input. That is what I was afraid of. The previous owner says it has some billet parts so I may be better off rebuilding this than buying a beefed up on. I can pull the tranny myself but will need to either internet purchase a complete replacement or bring to a good local shop for rebuild. Anyone know of a good shop in the Pacific Northwest - Monroe, WA. I would also be interested in suggestions for replacements that could handle the power. Thanks.

I don't know of one locally (i'm in Portland OR) but I have heard forum members talk about an ebay shop.

Also, from what I've read you will definitely want to have it beefed up for the power. Do a search on trannys... probably tons of info.

The stock trany and torque converter can not handel a super charger ,your lucky it lasted that long . You need a high preformance rebuild ,and a HP converter. About $3500.00 should put you back on the road.
Mike at Inglewood transmission is on of the best on the West coast .
