new vs old style mirrors
Would you give me an opinion as far as what looks better on a 2005 custom H2. Allot of You know my rig and if you have not seen it would you look in pics section and look under search for TAZ or Dragon and give me thoughts of the new vs the old looking mirrors as which looks better.
I seem to remember something about going to dealer and if having problems which it is the dealer has been just changing to new style. I do not see how they would leave you with one old style and one new.
Man was this short, even I cannot beleive it.
THANKS ALL FOR HELP ON THIS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: new vs old style mirrors
Holy SH!T, Taz!
I had no idea how far you had taken that thing. I can only imagine how many hours you must have put into that obvious labor of love. Okay, now I'm getting long winded. For my truck and most H2's, I like the new style mirrors. For your truck, so much of the lines suggest large flat surfaces (e.g. all the body shaving you have done) so I actually prefer the lines of the older style more for your truck.
How's your health. I'm improving, but very slowly. All good with your daughter? Bring that bling out West some time (after fire season).
Be well, my friend!

Exact opposite opinion here. The new lines of the truck are more rounded, therefore the new-style mirrors would look better. I'll go so far as to say that the existing mirrors look "out of place", like a part of the truck that was lazily ignored in the build process.

Re: new vs old style mirrors
With that much body work, I think you need some kind of custom mirror covers. Like maybe some chrome flames in 3D bass relief?

Re: new vs old style mirrors
Thanks Tower I'm glad You are doing better and Pray you continue on a healthy course.
I am like you coming along slowly. 3 steps forward and 2 back. I spent last week in hospital. The long bleed for 3 years has caused neuro problems. I started balckouts which we blamed on nuero deal which I will clear up more shortly, HA HA. I have 2 things happening right now that has been sorted out by the best seizure guy in AR as well as the best cardio. They are working together with my good old faithful blood doc that has been with me since 4/17/2001. He saved my life not giving up pumping blood in me for 3 years while the Gi's said well we do not want to go in to put him through all that stress as it is really invasive. Well great blood doc says and constantly calling in front of me and chewing other doc's butt's. He said cut this guy open or you are looking at sorse problems down the line than cutting now.
Deal is apparently I have suffered bad oxygen deprivation from running on half empty blood for 3 years and less sometime when rushed to hospital and even have driven myself some. So many trips and transfusions at hospital not counting what Doc gave me in office till His insurance stopped Him, thanks sorry ins. Doc was saving me a fortune as I had no ins. myself. Sometime He would do it anyway knowing I was paying $365.00 per unit and took 3 at a visit many times. He would call his head nurse and they woud meet me at office at night. He is a rare breed. He would not charge me nor nurse so ins. would not know and i was not telling. I'm having seizures that can get controlled but it takes so much meds I cannot function so i cut them back, well you know what happens next it is a rollercoaster. I have lost allot of mony to thieves in business deals which business plans were great, yeah for them since i was the bank. For the record this is not Dragon, He is my best buddy and we are trying to work again at getting a AWD dyno setup again. He will be at SEMA all next week. He will be in class's almost all day every day. He is going to work on his SEMA Masters certificate. His MSA sales manger will be looking at new products for Hummer but, trucks as well as all other rides. Dragon's rep is growing into the good old USA car's well some muscle cars as well as tuners. Me being sick has hurt the Hummer end which we are partners in as he is sole ownber of MSA. He has run both where plan was i would get it off ground and then back off more after a man was hired to sort of take my place. I'm fighting back it is rough so any Hummer business that can be done with Dragon and I will be very much appreciated and humbling. Email Dragon or me. I'm fighting to help as much as i can.
Tower to go back to health I have moved to a Neuro that specializes in seizures caused by trauma such as car wrecks near drownings whateveer. In my case constant oxygen deprivation for 3 years. It took a second visit with thiw tests and he asked if i would mind seeing a heart doc that deals with the electrical side. So i go and he runs 3 test in one day and calls me back in late in the day and told me i have 2 enlarged valves and one leaking. He has all file from the begining of the bleeding and when he saw they let it go for 3 years he went ballistic. He said in simple terms my heart had worked so many times harder that it is cause of my problem. He is running more tests and I'm getting the EP study possible abalition on 11/7/2007. He wants to go inside my heart so he can see with his eyes and he said my heart rate timing fluctuates from one end to the other according to the heart monitors i have been wearing he said first he wants to see if he may be able to zap some nodes and get timing corrected. He did say the blackouts early was the sign of the heart situation not Neuro. yet I do have the seizures my new Neuro is trying ti figure out what to do. I begged him if it took cracking my skull my goal is to get off all the meds i'm on.
Tower i know I may have confused some things but, just ask. You know me well enough i hurry to much and write to long etc. i just wanted to let You know as You always ask more than anyone else. I appriciate that and i know there are allot of new members since i got in back in late 2004 i think August.
I notice allot of the old Buds do not get on much anymore. I had been gone awhile but, did not get on computer much. I started to try more because I have dedicated myself since i bought my 2005 on May 28, 2004 on my youngest daughters birthday. She is doing well tower. I guess You remember she married last 6/2006 but, refused to do so because she could not leave me alone since I had to run my wife off and not my fault so that is all i will say about that. They married and stay with me in a house not huge but, to big for just me. My new son is a great help to me. I became a grandpa for the first time back in Feb.2007 by my oldest girl who is doing really good. My grandson will be one in Feb. of 2008. I asked if they would allow him to call me what i called my grandfather who raised. PawPaw, how do you like that?
I am in the south remember.
I hope to have the health stuff more worked out by end of year. Bills are rough when you are a guy who has always been generous with money helping others but, i believe it will all come back to me. I'm just shocked young men would steal from me knowing I'm sick and me knowing them for 10 years. Each in seperate business deals. One sold Our mortgage company that was doing very well lied took money and shipped a harley to Ireland and is spending his days touring Europe. The other well it is just depressing thinking about it so not worth it. I just wanted to let you know.
tower i really do have plans to get out west and i will let you know and look you up. I do not understand what can happen with enlarged heart valves mean but, doc said it was due to pumping so hard those years and allot of the time nothing pumping. He mentioned the word cavitating like a bost prop and it helped me understand better. I just do not and have not looked up yet what has to be done to fix them. I have had so much surgery i really do not want to be cut open anymore. You know what i mean. I would almost rather let it go as far as i can make it.
tower all in all my spirits are good because fortunately as blood doc said I was one of the most optimistic guys he had seen when he first got envolved with me. When i started in his office (he is mainly a cancer specialist and kind of guy that just will not give up) as i was at his office Wed. for checkup which he still does every 6 weeks now but, He said man this has really gotten complicated just as i kept telling all the other docs back in 2002 after one year get off your butts and do your job. No joking I was in his office when he made the phone calls which at the time the reason was no one wanted to get very invasive and the surgery they would do is real bad they said. Well it could not be worse than now.
tower i was so glad when I saw you jump back on line with us and found out you were doing better. I know you have a good ways to go but, i think like me you will get there. This last week as before going into hospital they removed all meds to help stress me an cause as bad a seizure under 24/7 watch which they did last Friday. But, this week while slowly coming back online with meds everyone said they were looking at the old TAZ again. I was up beat smiling and trying to make all feel good which is just how i really am. I hate going back on the meds but, until new Neuro decides what he wants to do I have to take them and now the heart doc is adding meds to level heart beat out.
I want to be well to build something to drag race in besides with H2 especially when it is at a show. The H2 would just be a run or 2 just to freak people out. I want to build a late 90's Mazda Miata with a
Ford 9 1/2" rear end and I think a small block 5.0 Mustang engine with a short drive shaft. Tranny manual I think? I'm not sure an auto with a trans brake would fit. It would need rubber all the way across the back. I would move the rear end back some since wheel wells would be enlarged anyway for big slicks. I want to go all motor first the look at SC or turbo then add methanol inj. etc. etc. I cannot do anything half way. I got to make some money first but, what do You or anyone think of doing that with a Miata. They are bad boys. I have seen one that was converted but, it is a street rig and made to look like a Shelby Cobra. It fooled me for a few minutes. It was all the latest electronic systems in it.
tower I rambled long enough. I get insomnia allot with the meds and now heart doc is adding toptol 25mg to level out heart rate.
I would not mind if anyone that has this deal with enlarged valves and one leaking plus had the EP with a abalition done instead of just a possible with me. Tell me what it can do if You do not mind. PM me or let's move to different part of forum and let me know where. Thanks to anyone or many who can give me an idea of the different things doc may do to help me as he said at least help the heart rate problem by zapping some nodes i think.
Thank all for your patience and any help.
Thanks tower for your yeah on the H2 project. We are really looking at chnaging paint scheme but, some say no way should we do that. We want to instead of having the raised fake air intake caps making caps that are smooth level with hood because we have the huge hood scoop. Some say they look of the hood is sort of off just a little with the bumps on the corners.
Well as asked any ideas will be taken very seriously.
TAZ

Re: new vs old style mirrors
Dear Taz.
I am so touched by your openness, courage and enduring friendship. You are truly an inspiration. I would love to see you out here in CA. Perhaps you could make the next Moab trip. Let me put your mind at ease re: the EP/ablation therapy. While there are no insignificant cardiac procedures, ablation is one of the safest and most effective. In support of this, I offer the following:
During an EP study the electrophysiologist (a cardiologist with specialized training in the electrical system of the heart) will thread special electrode catheters (long, thin, flexible wires) to the heart, normally through the groin area. Once it is determined which area of the heart is responsible for the arrhythmia, a special wire carrying radiofrequency energy is used to cauterize the site. Catheter ablation is an outpatient procedure that normally takes only a couple of hours to complete and has few complications.
To put this all in a perspective more familiar to you, It is similar to putting the test leads of an ohmmeter into the cardiac muscle to find an aberrant pathway (some wiring of little resistance shorting things out) and then taking a soldering iron to that pathway to destroy its ability to conduct electricity. If you look up WPW (Wolff-Parkinson-White) Syndrome you will find another severely aberrant pathway. A pathology easily treated with ablation to a full recovery.
I am, of course, sad to hear of your difficulties. I try to bear in mind that "God never gives us more than we can handle" (so this proves that you are very, very strong). I once got a quotation from a friend in an e-mail which gave me one of those aha moments. I will share it with you here:
Itzhak Perlman Story
On Nov. 18, 1995, Itzhak Perlman, the violinist, came on stage to give a concert at Avery Fisher Hall at Lincoln Center in New York City. If you have ever been to a Perlman concert, you know that getting on stage is no small achievement for him. He was stricken with polio as a child, and so he has braces on both legs and walks with the aid of two crutches. To see him walk across the stage one step at a time, painfully and slowly, is an unforgettable sight. He walks painfully, yet majestically, until he reaches his chair. Then he sits down, slowly, puts his crutches on the floor, undoes the clasps on his legs, tucks one foot back and extends the other foot forward. Then he bends down and picks up the violin, puts it under his chin, nods to the conductor and proceeds to play.
By now, the audience is used to this ritual. They sit quietly while he makes his way across the stage to his chair. They remain reverently silent while he undoes the clasps on his legs. They wait until he is ready to play. But this time, something went wrong. Just as he finished the first few bars, one of the strings on his violin broke. You could hear it snap — it went off like gunfire across the room. There was no mistaking what that sound meant. There was no mistaking what he had to do. People who were there that night thought to themselves, "He'll have to get up, put on the clasps again, pick up the crutches and limp his way off stage — to either find another violin or else find another string for this one."
But he didn't. Instead, he waited a moment, closed his eyes and then signaled the conductor to begin again. The orchestra began, and he played from where he had left off. And he played with such passion and such power and such purity as they had never heard before. Of course, anyone knows that it is impossible to play a symphonic work with just three strings. I know that, and you know that, but that night Itzhak Perlman refused to know that. You could see him modulating, changing, recomposing the piece in his head. At one point, it sounded like he was de-tuning the strings to get new sounds from them that they had never made before.
When he finished, there was an awesome silence in the room. And then people rose and cheered. There was an extraordinary outburst of applause from every corner of the auditorium. We were all on our feet, screaming and cheering, doing everything we could to show how much we appreciated what he had done. He smiled, wiped the sweat from this brow, raised his bow to quiet us, and then he said, not boastfully, but in a quiet, pensive, reverent tone, "You know, sometimes it is the artist's task to find out how much music you can still make with what you have left." And who knows? Perhaps that is the way of life - not just for artists but for all of us. — Jack Riemer, Houston Chronicle, via the Black Rose Acoustic Society e-mail list
So, my dear friend, Taz, let us (you and I) find out how much music we can still make with what we have left!

Re: new vs old style mirrors
Thanks tower for the encouragement and I hope you take the same from Me as I offer it. Hey H2Finally in short order You spoke some srtong words of wisdom. 51 is not to old but, i have a 100 years of experience in many things. i always considered myself a jack of all trades and a master of none. Yet most of the trades i pick up I do quite well. Thanks H2Finally for the encouragement.
I'm going to look at the new mirrors closer. We are as mentioned looking at a complete remake outside unless I change my mind and stay with what I like now. If any wish to encourage me to stay with the look I got or change with suggestions I would like the input.
Thanks to all for support i get in emails etc.
tower I have been to Carnige Hall but, blessed then to see my youngest daughter sing there for her college. I would not know how to act to get to sit and hear an artist as great as Mr. Pearlman. I do believe that we are charged to do the best we can with what we have and that means wisdom, health, and finances but, all to improve life for others and God will take care of us while we focus our attention outward and not on ourselves. So I am for sure going with Your sentiment. Thanks
OK Buds let me hear about the look I need to go with and i will make it to the west coast. I want to go to Moab when i know I will not be a burden to anyone or risk cutting a trip short for someone if I had medical deal pop up. I will need a ride while there because i would most likely fly in or jump in with someone coming across Arkansas on I-40. I have been to Rifle, CO. many times so I was closer over the past years than realized but, that was before I found the Hummer World. I do plan moving to the off-roading some day soon as the Mall Queen will not remain that her whole life. It would not be right to never use the rig for what it was built for. So it will live part of it's life in the dirt or rather MUD as that is about all we have here in the flat rice country except in Hot Springs, AR. I will be able to go to that park and actually get training. I know how to fight the mud but, hills and rocks I have allot to learn. I look forward to that time.

Sorry to hear your present medical condition, you'll be in our prayers. My wife has some of the same problems associated with the malfunction of the SA node (electrical impulse generator of the heart). Although her case is not quite as severe as the symptoms that you portray that you have experienced, she still may need an ablation. After reading, you say that this went on for 3 years? Actually with the decreased oxygen to hemoglobin affinity, I can't understand how you made it out of bed each AM. You also stated that you had some valvular problems, do you remember which ones and if it was regurgitation related (within the atrial of the heart)? Just trying to get a clinical picture of what you are going through. Again, thanks for all you do in helping out this Hummer community despite your health. GOD Bless......Jamie

Re: new vs old style mirrors
Taz, I will agree with Tim. If you are up for all the work, on the new mirrors, consider machining out the H2 logo and replacing it with some sort of lens, then lighting from behind. Maybe a Muth mirror for the other side.
Re: Moab, Taz, If you can get yourself out there, I would be honored to have you ride with me (as I'm sure many here would). May even need to check out your driving skill with my rig. And if your health should fail, broken as I am, you can count on me to do whatever is in my power to see to your well-being, including enlisting help from others. If you need to bring O2 and have an ambulance on standby, it's Nike time (just do it!)

Re: new vs old style mirrors
Thanks Jamie and tower as well as so many that I'm hearing from. I never quite thought of myself as that inspiring but, I always remember that it is not me but, some wonderful things God does through me or using me which it is a place that a person has to be willing to be in.
Jamie I wish i could be more detailed but, I'm just learning right now as i go. In the last 3 weeks after being with the same hematologist/oncoligist since 4/17/2001 my first hospital stay for the AVM problem with HMG at 6.7 and finally with extreme pressure from him and myself we got a GI and a surgeon to operate. I kno only because i was told what would happen is they had big stainless steel tables in the room and were going through my GI tract by hand till they found the bleeding. This was 3 years after first hosptal stay. Doc which is what i cal hematologist has taken on the role of a general Doc for me. He worked so many times to keep me alive. Doc and the great GI we finally found last 6 months gave me their personal cell numbers as well as their home numbers. Well you get it. Before I would get rushed to hospital and they would start whole blood and vitamin K shots which by the time the lazy Gi's I had been dealing with would show up at their convience and scope plus run me through tests I never heard of like Meckles Scan. Anyway i would not be losing blood by the time they got theree and I would stay a whole week and get sent home till I was back again after anywhere from 2 weeks towards the end up to 3 to 6 months before the huge area would ooze blood again. No barium I swallowed or radiation shot in me would show up anything, WIERD! At the end i could mtell i would not make it till the last of the month and i cannot ecplain it but, my body just was able to tell me it was over that it had fought as hard as it could and could not go on. I know it sound so dramatic but, finally my Doc found a Gi who hunted around and found a hot shot surgeon and they split me from my sternum to about 4" below belly button and then cut me from there both directions following the bottom of my vertical incision around to both corners of my hips and spread me back to beging the search. If they knew how easy it was going to be to find they said the cut would have been about 7" long under my sternum. Right as i was going to room to be prepped my Pastor asked the nurses if he could go and if he was told no it would be to bad as he wanted to Pray for wisdom for the docs and give me comfort till I went to surgery. They first gave him a hard time but, I guess looking into his face just said come on let us gown you etc. When it came time He prayed a simple short Prayer which i found out he Prayed with family later. He just asked God to give them wisdom and that what ever the problem was that God would make it glow RED like a NEON SIGN. Well after the cut and pulling me back for a look what they saw. My stomach and small intestines were so inflamed that the surgeon who heard none of this as i vereified it but, surgeon came out to family and friends to tell them about how small the cut could have been but, that my stomach glowwed like a RED NEON SIGN. I in room after recovery tolf the family what was Prayed over me right before surgery and they told me what was told to them word for word by surgeon. GI problem turned out OK except triggering the chain reaction of events i mentioned with Neuropathy problem, blackouts, and then seizures. My neuro asked if I would not mind seeing a new neuro so i did and second follow up which was quick he asked if I would mind seeing and heart eletrician as he sat me down and explained how they are split into 2 groups electrician and plumber which i got a kick out of. Well my Doc said great as he had been trying to get me to go see this new specialist neuro. The new neuro sent me after 2 visits and the test he ran as i had began to blaackout and get dizzy agian. He said it was not connected to a neuropathy although we did have some serious stuff to look into. So I went to the cardio and he did 3 tests the first day and had me to come to by told me i had 2 enlarged valves and one was leaking. He scheduled a head/tilt test 11/2 (whtaever that is) and the EP on 11/7. My Doc, the neuro, and cardio blame it on all the oxygen deprivation I had for 3 years. Whatever it is water under the bridge so I ask them where do we go from here. Drill o hole in head if you can zap the area and same as heart for now will be great. I'm not real brave, just tired wanting it to end and not afraid anymore of whatever happens. Just get it over so i can go back to the high revs I normally lived all the time. I do not want to make either one angry as i have been told the neuro and cardio are the best at what they do. The electrician said he would have a plumber with him in case needed. I get the feeling I'm not being told all or it is not known. There is much more but, can share that later if desired. My daughters with all the other stuff that has happened said as sorry as allot of it sounds the girls said man dad you should have a book written or movie made about all that has happened to You.
Jamie it has been an ongoing battle at some level or another for about 10 years. When the bleeding started I was playing on 4 to 5 softball teams at one time but, it had kept getting harder with shortness of breath.
There are many with worse than I have to deal with. Look at single parents. I hope I have given You more to go on etc. Anyone can offer ideas on all or any part of this and Jamie if you would like to know more I can possible answer specific questions with PM's.

Re: new vs old style mirrors
t, wisdom? me? BWAHAHA!! You must really be feverish!
Taz, looking at the multitude of blessings in my life (hey, I'm drivin' a Hummer ain't I?! ), I absolutely believe in miracles like the RED NEON SIGN in your stomach! Sorry I know nothing abt medicine to give any advice, but you're certainly in my prayers. Lately I have been listening to a bit of Joel Osteen (the Lakewood TX pastor), and find true comfort in his message full of hope. As we get older and find life harder and darker and full of people out to take advantage of us, we often forget that God's message is called the GOOD NEWS! How often we think of ourselves as victims rather than victors!
No, I'm not going to preach but I believe your life, whatever the outcome, WILL be a blessing to someone somewhere sometime -- maybe even some total stranger in the distant future, who googled and find this, and took comfort in reading about your struggles and perseverance and solutions and TRIUMPH! -- all because you took the time to generously and genuinely share, in a forum about Hummers, of all places! Maybe your daugther is right and you should write that book. After all, you're already writing novel-length replies here...

Re: new vs old style mirrors
So true H2 about all and for sure the novels. I try hard to not get wordy but, sometime things just keep coming to me. I have been to Lakewood a good long while ago.
tower I will be taking You up on that Moab trip I hope the next time all go. Keep me up to date and i'll have you make me a list of what to bring. Not much for sure but, i can always buy it after i get out there on plane. After all i would be looking at trip as a chance to just kick back and rejoic of health recovery. If albe will pull more than my share i can assure You of that. You are in my prayers as is H2Finally and many that have sent well wish.
New mirrors it is and can anyone tell me the best way to get them without paying a fortune? We have had trouble keeping them timed amoung other things. I had about enough of them but, I had not kept up with recalls as we change so much but the basic skeliton and skin is there along with allot of factory stuff.
