I just got the new Pioneer flip screen system installed in my truck 2 days ago and all I can say is DAMN I love this thing.

The picture quality is outstanding and it is touch screen as well which I have always wanted. I put Underworld in there to test out the DVD functions and the movie looks very good, much better than I expected it to be.

You can control amplifier settings from the unit rather than go to the back of the truck to adjust things. Did I mention I love the fact that it is touch screen?

The navigation is built into the head unit so there isn't a seperate piece of equipment that needs to be purchased to go with it. You can do split screen with the radio and Navi which is how I keep it right now. The unit supports voice recognition so you can keep your hands on the wheel and control things.

What really adds to the value of this unit for me at least is the fact that you can monitor vehicle properties through the unit. Angular velocity, side slope degree, voltage, lateral g-force, forward and backward g-force and a compass. Very handy to have up on the screen while offroading. I'm in the process of hooking up an HCam to the system and should have that running by tomorrow or Tuesday.

Enough of my rambling, here are some pics. You may notice my picture taking ability has been somewhat hindered by alcohol...

Nice set-up. What is the model number and how much did it cost you? How much did you buy the trailer "rear view" cam for?

JMV - Model number is AVIC-N1. I paid $1,700 for the unit. The camera was purchased from my good buddy Big C.

George - No I didn't replace any speakers nor do I fel they need to be. Having subs in the vehicle means you really only use your other speakers for tweeters and mids which I think they work fine for.

Real nice setup. How do you like the Kicker subs? I was thinking of throwing a set of them in mine. Are they 10's or 12's? Also which kicker amp is that?

I screwed up badly ordering the modules so I figured the hell with it for right now. I need to get the XM, TV and Voice Recognition modules.

Spike, the speakers are 10's, L7's I believe. The amp is the 1200.1 watt one, they changed the names around again so I don't know which one I have anymore. It is too much power for those subs so I am thinking of adding 2 12's into the mix to go with them.

Frank, you might want to go ahead and buy the Pioneer GEX-P910XM. Rumor is Pioneer will soon quit making it. Right now, Crutchfield has it in stock:

Hi Frank

I have a Pioneer Nav System - Here is a small problem I have and wonder if you have it and how might it be corrected (Help Klaus):

The Pioneer Nav System has a Nighttime screen and Daytime screen - Day = Gray background (like your picture) Nighttime = Black background.

In the "Settings Mode" you can toggel the mode (automatic) which should allow the unit to change to black background when lights go on toward evening - however since the H2 has day-time running lights my backgroud is always black in auto mode.

Unless I toggel the setting to "off" - then the background is always gray even at night (which is to bright inside at night).

Have you experienced this - any suggestion? My Installer states that they cannot correct this problem.

I don't have my wiring diagrams with me at work, and I'm guessing about the Pioneer, so here goes.

I suspect the Pioneer needs to be connected to a 12V source that is "hot" when the lights are on. If, in fact, the dash lights are always on, that won't work. I'd suggest a connection to the tail light circuit.

I'll look it up tonight for you.

Mine auto adjusts for day/night just fine so far. I have it set to always stay bright cause when I have my windows up and the sunroof closed sometimes it thinks it is night time and dims the screen. My windows are pitch black though so I guess the sensor on top the screen gets a little goofy since no light really gets into the truck.

Got Dirt - I haven't had it long enough to develop any problems so I can't say for sure it will continue to work fine but so far all is well. You won't be unhappy getting one unless you don't like the screen flipping out of the dash, by far not an OEM look.

The courtesy/illuminated entry lamps, may be manually turned on or off by
placing the interior lamp switch in the ON or OFF position. If a door is opened,
the courtesy/illuminated entry lamps illuminate. After all the doors have been
closed the courtesy/illuminated entry lamps will remain illuminated
approximately 15seconds. The courtesy/illuminated entry lamps will also
turn on prior to any door being opened, and remain illuminated approximately
40seconds when the driver removes the ignition key. If the interior lamp
switch is turned on when the ignition key is OFF, or the interior lamp switch is
left on when the ignition key is turned OFF the BCM will turn off the courtesy
lamps after approximately 10minutes.</P>


When the driver places the dome lamp defeat switch in the OFF position, the
courtesy/illuminated entry lamps will be disabled, however will still operate
from the interior lamp switch.</P>


The left and right front door courtesy lamps are controlled, and receive
voltage and ground from the drivers door module (DDM) and the passenger door
module (PDM) respectively. The BCM, DDM, and the PDM communicate through class
II serial data for the lamp illumination commands and the door ajar switches.

The remaining courtesy lamps are controlled and receive voltage from the BCM.
Ground is provided to the footwell lamps and all courtesy/reading lamps at G203.
Ground is provided to the right middle and right rear door at G306. Ground is

When the driver uses the door key in order to unlock the doors, the body
control module (BCM) receives a door unlock signal. The BCM must have inputs
that indicate that the ignition switch is OFF, the courtesy lamp switch is OFF
and all the doors are closed. The BCM will then activate the interior lamps. The
courtesy lamps will remain on, approximately 15seconds after the door is
closed. The BCM will then turn them off through the theater dimming feature. If
the door locks are activated to the LOCK position, or if the ignition switch is
turned to either the RUN or CRANK position the courtesy lamps will turn off
immediately.</P>


When the driver uses the remote function actuator transmitter to unlock the
doors, trunk or presses the panic button, the BCM will keep the courtesy lamps
on approximately 40seconds. When the driver uses the remote function
actuator transmitter to lock the doors, the BCM will keep the courtesy lamps on
approximately 2seconds. If the ignition switch is turned to either the RUN
or CRANK position the courtesy lamps will turn off immediately. The BCM will
also keep the courtesy lamps on approximately 40seconds, after an alarm

positive voltage to the reading lamps. The reading lamps and switch are integral
to the courtesy/reading lamp assembly. When the switch is closed, voltage is
supplied and the lamp illuminates. Ground is provided to the reading lamps at

<H5>Battery Rundown Protection/Inadvertent Power</A></H5>


The BCM inadvertent power supply voltage circuit provides battery positive
voltage to all of the interior reading lamps, I/P compartment lamp, and both
visor vanity mirror lamps. In the event that any of these lamps were to remain
illuminated for a period of more than 10minutes with the ignition switch
in the OFF position, the BCM will deactivate the inadvertent power supply
voltage circuit to prevent a total battery discharge condition. </P>


The BCM also utilizes the inadvertent power supply voltage circuit as a lamp
request signal circuit when none of the lamps in the circuit are illuminated.
When a lamp switch is activated, the BCM receives the request for lamp
illumination and switches to supplying voltage to the inadvertent power supply
voltage circuit.</P><A name=ss8-845475><A

<H5>Interior Lamps Dimming</A></H5>


The second group includes lamps which may be dimmed. This group may use a
combination of vacuum fluorescent (VF) illumination and incandescent lamps.</P>


When the ignition switch is turned to the RUN position, the radio's vacuum
fluorescent (VF) displays turn on at maximum brightness. When the park lamps are
on, all incandescent back lighting turn on at the dimming level indicated by the
I/P dimmer switch. At the same time all vacuum fluorescent (VF) displays dim to
match the indicated dimming level. The panel dimmer switch potentiometer is an
input to the BCM. When the driver selects a dimming setting by moving the I/P
dimming switch potentiometer, all incandescent back lighting lamps are provided
with a specific voltage. When the I/P dimmer switch is moved from MIN to MAX,
all vacuum fluorescent (VF) displays, as well as all incandescent back lighting
respond from minimum intensity to maximum brightness in response to the I/P
dimmer switch. </P>

The left and right front door switch illumination is controlled, receivies
voltage and ground from the drivers door module (DDM) and the passenger door
module (PDM) respectively. The radio is also a class II module and has full
control of its illumination. The BCM, DDM, PDM, and radio communicate through
class II serial data for the lamp illumination commands</P>


The I/P cluster illumination lamps receive voltage and are controlled by the
BCM on the instrument panel lamps dimming supply voltage circuit. Ground for the
instrument panel lamps is at G203.</P>


The various switches, HVAC control assembly, and the PRNDL lamps receive
voltage and are controlled by the BCM on the instrument panel lamps dimming
control circuit. Ground for the rear window switches is at G302 and G306. Ground
for the traction control switch, steering wheel controls, and the rear
window/wiper switch is at G200. Ground for the remaining switches is at
G203.</P>

The indicators receive voltage from the BCM on the LED dimming circuit.

If, in fact the Pioneer dimmer circuit requires a positive voltage to dim the display, I'd say splice into the positive side of the PRNDL (automatic transmission shift lever) illumination bulb wiring in the console.

I checked these bulbs tonight on my truck, and they are NOT always on - They come on when the dash sensor turns on the headlights. If your lights are always on, then you have some other problem that needs to be fixed.

I will post a couple of wiring diagrams. Look for PRNDL circuit 230.
