Had a loose feeling in the front end and dropped the H2 off for inspection. I go to pick up my trusty steed only to find out that all that stuff is junk. Its a 2005 and I added some 20 inch wheels,I have very little "abuse time" on this truck with 33,000 miles. When I asked the service writer if this was common he gave me that look and said "well we have had a few".Anyone heard of this before, should I expect this every 33,000 miles? On a bright note I got my 06 mirrors with no hassel and the service was great !

I generally replace my tie rods every 15,000 miles or so.

Actually, I forgot to mention that I rotate mine every 7500 miles. And yes, I do rotate in my spare tie rod.

Do you rotate your tie rods left to right or right to left?

I don't like to carry spare rods. I just carry some bamboo and duct tape.

Ok , so I have taken some time to catch up on the board after being away for a bit.I am taking it that I have picked a bad time to ask such questions about tie rods and such and will ask again in about a month. If you could let me in on what started all this tie rod talk. Back to the fun now.

LMAO!

Ok, seriuosly though.
Pitman arm, idler arm, and tie rod = JUNK!
Tie rods = junk

Here's your solution. E Mail Phil D for the HD Fabtech tie rod kit w/ steering stabilizer. that should fix you up! And no your rig doesn't have to be lifted to use it.
THAT IS ALL!

Solve all of your tie rod, pitman & idler arm problems by PMing PhilD and getting the HD parts. I got a set of tie rods from Phil and they are unbelievably tough.

I am visitng PhilD tomorrow at the 7 Canyons event. I placed an order a few weeks back for a set of HD Tie Rods.

I'm skipping the Pittmans for now because I just had them replaced under warranty.

I would like to say that in 50K miles and countless wheeling trips, I have YET TO BREAK A TIE ROD!!

Yeah... and? I had 60,000+ miles on my H2 AND just had brand new stock idler, pitman & tie rods put on before the Moab trip. But barely spin a tire and *DOINK* bent my passenger side tie rod. I don't think I even bounced when it happened. Scary, especially when I think of all of the stuff I've done with this rig.
