Default 2500HD Fan Part Numbers

Does anyone have all the part numbers that need to be ordered to convert the H2's clutch fan over to the 2500HD electric fan? I think I recall reading you need to order everything seperately (fans, shroud, nuts/bolts) and I found the wiring harness at Nelson Performance so I'm good there.

Thanks in advance,

Dan

Partsguy and I have covered this many times so you may be able to do a search and find what you need on forum already.

Yesterday I responded to question Orange was having about using a shroud or not and mentioned parts needed and to contact Nelson on buying harness to match HD fan kit. I'm sorry i cannot recall the parts numbers.

I'm not sure how it applies past 2005 H2's or if numbers can be gotten vey easily anymore. I do know they have been mentioned a long time back in our forum. Search may turn them up.

Sorry for not being more help.

Is this a "plug-n-Play" setup, meaning there are connections in the H2's wiring harness to support these two connectors?

The GM HD fan kit has to have wiring harness from Nelsonperformance.com
It will come with info on connections.

or you can get just the plugs and use a stand-alone fan controller. Try SPAL or Flex-a-lite.

The way I understand the harness from nelson, you need to flash the PCM in order for it to work. [I could be wrong, though]

You just plug Nelson harness up to work.

There is one wire that instructions tell you what connector to hook to so you can have your PCM control the on and off temps for fan. You do have to go to a tuner shop that can hook up and turn on that function. It is there but, of course set in the off position. Most any turner shop should be able to do that for you for minimal fee. I think some of the newer handheld progrmers have the ability to turn fan control on.

Another solution is to hook the wire into a connector that turns fans on only when AC is running. When you get up above 25 mph the forced wind will cool the H2 if not using it hard. You can use this setup until you get to a shop or find someone with a newer handheld to set up fan control properly.

You could use an aftermarket unit to run electric fans but, I personally have not had good experience with them. Using the factory fan control bypass you can cut of fan by turning off the AC switch. I would not want to use this long but, not afraid to use it till i get a unit to turn that control on in the PCM.

Why is it that you guys are trading out the clutch fan?
Does this take some strain off the engine?
Helps cool easier?

Would like to know more, to decide if it is something I would like to do....

Thanks Guys!

Better cooling but, more importantly gain in HP. Rule of thumb is 15 to 18 HP with electric fans. Plus the electric fans can help control how much temp you want to run during different times of the year. Colder, set fans to come on at 220 and your t-stat opens faster heater works quicker. In heat, set it for 180 AC works quicker.

Now all this does not even start to cover the benefit to the engines length of service and dependability.

I've done some searching - found 2 kits complete - right down to the automatic on/off switch

1. - http://www.lingenfelter.com/store/flx505.html

2. - http://www.breathlessperformance.com...ric%20fans.asp

both seem to sell for just under $600 bucks.

My question is why go with 2500 - buying all seperate parts - then buying the Nelson harness - then figuring the tuning - etc - when you can just buy a plug in kit...... can it actually be thatmuch cheaper? or has experience proven these products no good?

to me, it isn't a matter of price, I use oem parts whenever I can.

Also, heard negative things about flex-a-lite fans - blades breaking, ect.. Which may or may not be true, but I'll try to avoid possibilities when I can.

on some level, there's also the matter of resale value...

I'm willing to bet that those are both Flex-A-Lite (FAL) kits and you can find them cheaper at Summit Racing or Jeg's if you can find a part number for the kit (looks like it might be 595). FAL is also notorius for controllers that burn out...a good number of the Lightning guys went the FAL route and several have had two or three controllers melt on them. I'd avoid the FAL controllers...
