Question FRONT DIFF. LEAK HELP!!!

I have a 06 H3 with 35's leveled and 75000 miles. Changed the oil in it yesterday and noticed a bunch of oil on the front diff cover. Called Independence Hummer in Charlotte and they said they couldn't do anything without a 95 dollar diagnostic charge. I asked what goes in the front diff and the lady said she didn't know (cant figure out why they cant get intelligent people to answer the phones in a shop). I'm thinking Id' just pull the cover and check it out for myself, hopefully its just a blown seal. Problem is I don't know what goes back in there gear oil, 90W, synthetic etc... Anyone know? Anyone else have this happen yet???

75w90 full synthetic gear lube

Wipe all the fluid off with a clean rag, then spray all oil surfaces with Brake Parts Cleaner and it will dry up all the oil. Drive it around the block and stop and check to see where the source of the leak is - as there should be fresh fluid at the leak. Should be easy to spot now that it is all cleaned up

Its normal to have some seepage. Any pics?

For the diagnostic charge you could probably have it nearly done at a local shop.

If you service it yourself...
Add some fluid to top it off in mean time. Wipe it down to observe problem.
Then reseach how to solve it and get it done.

Good Luck

no this wasn't normal seepage. The whole front drive unit was completely covered. I cleaned it up yesterday evening with brake cleaner and drove around the parking lot for a while and did not see anymore. I think tonight Ill add some 75W90 and drive around see what happens

Dont use silicone! Synthetic fluid will eat its way through, always use a gasket with synthetic fluids.

Thumbs up Re: FRONT DIFF. LEAK HELP!!!

K thanks guys. Hey i got another one. What are we hummer owners to do when we have a problem now that GM is no longer Hummer and most dealers (atleast in my area) are taking the Hummer signs down? I took mine to a GM dealer last year for an oil change but they said they didnt now anything about the 3 and had never done anything to one, so I left and did it myself. They also said there was an extra $45 charge to remove skidplates ontop of regular oil change price!!! Wont go back there again, but really if we have a problem are we just going to have to make the trip to the closets one? For me its about 2hrs and over 120 miles, Indendence Hummer in Charlotte. Anyone ever use them, they seem to be about the biggest one around here?
But thats not always a good thing!?! Anyone know how much the service manuals are going for now a days/ and how good they are?

remember, your owners manual has all of the recommended fluids listed in it and I believe it even has the capacities needed.....
