I considered installing a backup camera but frankly couldn't see myself starting the engine, go in reverse & then wait for the image and view it before backing up. So I installed an audio system that announces 8' - 5' - 3' - 2' - 1' & CRASH if it sees anything behind you. Nice for parking too. I first had them mounted (tape) on the bumper and then when I installed my tire carrier ended up installing them in the tow hooks. No drilling. Here's a pic of the sensor. Under $100 bucks and about an hour install.

Has its own speaker mounted right below the rear H2 speaker and yes, hear it fine. And it's not just beeps, it actually "talks" to you in English. Don't know if you can get a Yitish version. When you're about to hit something it sounds like a submarine crash diving. Definitly gets your attention. Pretty cool

Here's the cheapest place & you can actually hear a demo (english not yitish). http://www.tornadofuelsaver.com/vdi/index.php?PHPSESSID=bb7754a6cbc26b4abb6fa78f84c60f 2f
You can also buy it at www.autotoys.com but more expensive.
Just an alternative to the camera.

Thanks Jonahs
I saved the link. I wish I had seen this before I went and bought camera. The only good thing is i can mount it and and watch TV or play DVD on it. I was going to put a manual switch for the camera so i can turn it on without being in reverse and waiting for picture. I'm thinking I may do the sensor as well. I may forget the camera.

jonahs, cool find thanks for the info. I do wish it would announce a little bit closer distance. I was out and had to park on the street at a meter when I got back there was a Honda parked about 6 inches from going under my rear bumper and some other import parked in front of me. I had a hard time getting out of the sandwich without hitting anyone. I guess I could have put in reverse and hit the gas. The H2 is high enough to roll over most imports.

I might be able to get those for about $80 each plus shipping aprx. $10. That would save us about 20% off.
Let me find out and see from my friend. Who is interested let me know so I know how much to get.

LasVegas,
This is a great setup and I was able to get one of the units from JohnnyT (Thanks John!!). Anyway, can you provide additional details on where you placed the 'box' and routing of wires etc. Im anxious to install this but figured it would be good to gain input from a true experienced installer. Thanks in advance

Hi Dewi2005,
Just got my truck back from the dealer and installed this unit already. Attached are pics from the installation. Maybe this might give you another idea.

I mounted the speaker at the front of the side trim. If you need more info let me know.
