Advice Please Rear Axle Skid Plates
Well this didn't go over too well in the other catagory, so i'll try here before giving up. Here we go:
Hello, I just got my Black H3 Alpha Adventure. I LOVE IT! I've been reading this forum for a while now waiting for my old lease to expire. No Photos yet, she is still bone stock. You all know what one looks like. But, not for long. I have 5 315/75-16 MTZs, Underbody Shield Package, Rocky Road Supersliders on the way. I have a few questions for the hardcore wheelers.
Rear Axle Skid Plates. Are they worth the @ $200+? Do they really work? I will be taking her wheeling as often as I can. Mounds, Tippy Dam and Drummond Island.
Can you recommend a brush guard for the 08 Alpha? I really think the factory one is not worth the $.
Is there anything better than the "blue painters tape" to protect her from getting brush scars? That 3M stuff?
Last one (thanks for the time): has anyone damaged their rear diff? Should I get the Rear Differential Skid Plate also?
It's a 2 year lease and the more I can protect her the better I will feel when I wheel her real hard?

Taint? Really?

No they're not worth $200. Yes they will protect the bolts.

Frost King clear tape. But real wheelers wear their scars with pride.

Yes. No. You're not likely to damage the pumpkin hitting it in the front, unless you try really, really hard. The Purple Cranium protector will protect the diff cover, which is most vulnerable, as is much cheaper.

Re: Advice Please Rear Axle Skid Plates
Rear Axle Skid Plates. I put the skid plates on my 06 and when I ordered my
Alpha they were on it right from the dealer. Worth it? Yes!!
Can you recommend a brush guard for the 08 Alpha? I have an H2 & Alpha now and both brush guards came from Real Wheels. Just depends on what look you want.
Is there anything better than the "blue painters tape" to protect her from getting brush scars? That 3M stuff? Yes, buy some magnetic shield material which will magnetically adhere to the truck in most of the brush exposed areas. I buy the 40" 30 mil stuff from Magnetic Source which only comes in white. Cut out a paper template, cut the magnetic sheet then using spray glue apply cloth over the magnetic sheet. Makes a great protector. My H2 set has been off road at least 15 times and are still in good shape. My
Alpha set has only been off road once. Alpha pic w/magnetic skins attached.
Rear Differential Skid Plate? Don't have that on my Alpha but I do have the complete underbody protection kit.

Re: Advice Please Rear Axle Skid Plates
Thanks for the advice. Yes, Taint. Since it is a lease the more protection of the under carriage and body the better. Ordering the Rear Axle Skid Plates and looking for the Purple Cranium protector and magnetic shield material online today. I'll post some photos when she is complete. (I know in the Photos of your H3) section. I'm learning!
