Default Phil: Have you seen this syn oil thread?

http://www.elcovaforums.com/forums/s...&highlight=oil

Notice how it mentions Redline is a class 5 oil compared to AMS & Mobil1 which are class 4. Apparently this other rating means it can withstand extreme temps better. Might Be good to try it with your heat concerns.

It explains why it has outperformed every other fluid I have used in my air-cooled Harley. It runs very high temps, due to compression, timing etc. (120/120 hp/tq).

Sounds like I will definitely be using Redline in my TC & diffs

I am not sure how the RP you are using is rated, but would be good to know.

Mobil 1 and Amsoil ASL are group IV, not group III. This information on Redline is for engine oil, and yes, Redline is well designed for air cooled engines which tend to burn hotter than liquid cooled engines.

Group V motor oil is based on Ester's, not PAO's, so RP rated at Group V is Ester based. Not sure about their other fluids such as trans fluid.
