Default Pitted Wheels Update

Finally got over to the dealer yesterday for routine maintenance. Showed the service advisor the pitted wheels. She said they would take a look at them. When she came out to tell me the truck was done, she also said that my new rims are on order and they will call me when they are in!

As always, Wright Hummer rocks!

How bad was the pitting? I'm guessing they think of it as a production problem....right? Congrats on the new wheels....Jamie

The pitting was confined to the "rough" areas of the wheels, not the highly polished areas. They seem to pit more towards the inner section of the rim. It has to be a production issue or they wouldnt have just said, OK we'll get you new rims.

The problem is the pitted areas get a dark grey color and look like crap. I polished them a bit and it got rid of the dark grey color, but it came back in about a week or so. So I decided that I wasnt able to live with that and asked the dealer to look into it.

I have read on here that some dealers give the owners a hard time with this and others got the same result as me. I'm thankful that my dealer is a good one!

Jamie,

I think its the salt on the roads up here in Pittsburgh PA in the winter. I know many members in the snowy winter regions have this trouble. Not sure what causes it. But it does funk up the trucks appearence for sure.

Being in sunny florida you shouldnt have that issue.....went to the "beach" last night.....Jimmy Buffett was in town, what a great concert!

Thanks, I was thinking maybe the salt in the air, etc, but I completely understand what you're saying. Having that kinda weather with salt on the roads as well car really reck havoc on a vehicle. Thanks...Jamie

well you figure in western pa, we start getting snow in november and it continues through sometimes march or april if we are unlucky. So thats quite a few month of having that crap on the vehicle. My whole undercarriage is rusty from that salt.

Thats why I am pumped up about the garage, we'll be able to wash that crap off more often here.

They also use "traction" material here too, like cinders and sand so that is beating up the underside too.

You should come on up in the dead of winter and experience the fun!...lol

Here are a few pics of this past winter....did I mention I hate freaking winter?

mike when i see those pictures i just remember every stinking winter here (in pittsburgh)! that's partially why i bought my hummer... i was sick of sliding around in rear wheel cars!

if it weren't for my family [and the steelers!], i'd be living in vegas nice desert 120 degree summers!!! deeeeelicious!

yeah the winters do bring the suck here in PA dont they. If it werent for us having our business here, we'd be living somewhere warm too. I've always had 4x4's because of the winters and i have to say the hummer is the best yet in the snow...that thing is a tank!

If we didnt live here, we'd be on the beach somewhere...we love that whole beach routine....probably why we're both parrotheads too!
