Well, I'm going to be having withdrawls. I will be without my H3 for close to 3 weeks. On Monday a squirrel got into the engine compartment at work and chewed through a bunch of wires, insulation and other things. When I got in to start it up after work, I started getting all sorts of warning lights. Traction control failed, abs failed, brakes failed, and something about fluid.
The insurance company looked at it and agreed to replace the enitre wiring harness that was chewed through. The part comes in next week and I was told it would take at least a week to install it. It is a fairly large harness on the driver's side behind the battery. I have a Grand Prix rental, which is killing me. It's not a bad car, but it's not an H3!!

That part shouldn't take a week to install.

Well, I don't know if that is actual install time or how long it will take since they are pretty busy. I can't complain though. The dealer has went out of their way to help me even though it is not a warranty claim. From what I understand though, it is sort of labor intensive to replacce the harness. I'm not speaking from experience, but it looks like there are a lot of wires.

Glad it's an insurance claim, should be considered comprehensive and not a collision claim. Hopefully the billable hours will not be 3 weeks worth.

Squirrel stew is pretty good with the right spices.

Better hope it is the main engine harness and not the body harness. The engine harness is hard to install, a lot of precise routing around the engine and to the trans, but the body harness is a downright pain in the rear.
It runs all the way from the BCM in the right front kick panel, under the I/P, through the grommet to the engine compartment all the way to the front left to the junction block and forward lamp harness. It probably requires removing the I/P or at least major components and trim panels.
I would guess the part is about 800 bucks (I might be low on that figure) and install will easily take two-days to do the install correctly. Engine harness would take about six hours.

Well, that squirrel has a bounty on his head!! The total cost to repair it is $4500.00 parts and labor. Glad I have insurance!! I'm not sure which harness it is yet. They are still waiting for it to come in.

holy skwerlmeat batman. Were you smearing peanut butter in there or something?

I once had chipmunks making a home in the aircleaner in one of my old Jeeps but after I stalked him iwth my bb gun and tagged him his friends decided to leave the Jeep alone. I cleaned out his little home and threw it along with the carcas in the trash.

Moth balls are supposed to be good for driving out rodents.

Well, I finally got it back after 3 weeks in a rental. It's almost like have a new vehicle again!! The dealer said it took about 40 hours of labor to replace the harness. Apparently, they had to remove the dash and a lot of other parts. The service department has been great. I have a couple little fit problems that I have to take it back for, but considering the amount of parts that had to be removed and all the wiring that had to be replaced, they did a great job on it.

I was almost as excited to go pick it up as when I went to buy it!!
