Bye bye Argo's Hummer. I guess a 40% side slope and 20 inches of water can stop a Hummer.
I was driving home from dinner last night and a cute lost doggie decided to jump out in front of me. I swerved to avoid him and ended up in a big muddy stream in the ditch. Needless to say I was completely stuck at an angle and water was seeping in the speakers on the passenger side. I called for a tow and two and a half hours later the tow trucks show up. Well two hours of winnching and pulling and my Hummer was finally free from the mud. The drivetrain was messed up, and my right rear wheel was sticking out. Lovely. The clincher? The stupid service department doesn't open until monday so I am stuck without a vehicle until they can get there and give me a loaner. Argo is sad. Even sadder than when he was keyed by the hippie war protesters. Hey DRTY, what was your hookup to get a loaner H1? I would love to drive one of those bad boys around for a while. |
Argo, sorry to read about your accident. Glad you are okay.
Once I was in a driving school, one thing the instructor said stuck in my mind: never try to avoid an animal. Many people got killed or suffered serious injuries and losses by trying to avoid animals. The consequence is just not worth it. Do not risk human lives over a cat or dog. Your insurance, or man, your insurance... guess the insurance companies knew what they are doing, all in the numbers. |
Once many moons ago, a GF was driving my car, we got off the freeway exit at Berkeley, she saw a dog on the side of the exit, she stopped the car and backed up. I freaked out, WTF are you doing??!!! Cars exiting freeway at 60MPH, you are backing up to pick up a dog!!!???? She insisted I was upset because I worried about my car, no, I was worrying about our lives! People do very strange things when it comes to animals on the road. A very smart woman doing a very stupid thing over a dog.
I've hit deers a couple times and a cat once, I felt very bad about them, but I drove straight into them, had no choice and was not a choice to make. Bad experiences and all shaken up but we are all fine and no damage. Got to train your brain to respond to such emergencies, split second decision can save you and your family's lives. |
I'll ditto those remarks about not swerving to avoid.
I love animals as much as the next guy (I prefer mine over the grill ![]() Next time, just slam on your brakes instead of swerving/ Then you can tell yourself you made an attempt to not hit it. If it's their time, It's out of your hands. Ric-H2 |
HAHAHA!!!!!
I knew that was your's!!! I just saw it up at Hannah. WTF did you do? You know that thing is toast, right? Messed up is a huge understatement. Not only was the right rear wheel sticking out 4 inches but the left side was tucked under an almost equal amount. BTW, you beat the height of my water mark by about a foot. I don't think you're gonna be able to get any kind of decent loaner after doing that stunt- even with my help. I'm curious what kind of "doggie" made you swerve? Was it a chocolate lager... I mean labrador? Or was it a German Hefeweizen... uhhh, I mean Weimeraner? ![]() You're a VERY BAD BOY!!! I'm going to go get some pics. Post them later. ![]() S&B Member since '03 |
Argo, I hate to say it, but I would have hit the poor dog. Should have been on a leash.
Seriously, I drive through a heavily wooded area at least once a day and almost always remind myself, "hit the animal, not the tree" as I enter that area. Hope everything gets fixed right for you. Black Lingenfelter Lux |

Sorry about your H2 (where's the pics?)maybe it's bad enough to be totaled.
My mom ran over a dog in the 70s on a Honda 550, the dog lived a couple days and died. She was running about 45mph and kept the bike up. Yell'r 04 Lux w/ air, sunroof,F&R brush bars 04 Chevy D/A CC SLT LB |

The wheel and tire sticking out are nice, but notice the water mark height & angle.

This is a pic of it sitting on flat ground. The rear tire is NOT on the curb.

I told you the rear tire wasn't on the curb.
I wonder if it'd pull much. Notice the very studly pewter rig on the right. S&B Member since '03 [This message was edited by DRTYFN on 02-29-04 at 10:02 AM.] |

Notice the trailing arm. I don't think it's supposed to be bent like that.

Slight rearward bend to the brackets.

Argo, If you can still get insurance you might want to consider this as a replacement.
