Where is all this hate coming from??
What is the deal with Hummer hate? Why do so many people bad mouth this wonderful vehicle? Apparently....it's bad off road, weak, ugly, useless, it's just a tahoe, bad on gas (true-ish), blah blah blah. Why all the hate?
I personally have not received a single bad remark...yet. Maybe it's because I live in Texas? I just don't understand the big deal with all the hate. Ignorance maybe? I love my H2. And I have several vehicles and have had several more in the past. Cars and trucks. And without a doubt the H2 is my favorite truck that I have ever owned. It is wonderful! I was just reading that article about the woman who cut off the Hummer driver and ran into the gas pumps. The comments underneath the article are basically just a bunch of people bad mouthing the Hummer. Why?? Maybe they forget that the Hummer driver DID NOT cause the explosion. Anyhow, just curious as to why there is so much hate. Just ignorance? Jealousy? |
Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
People have nothing better to do..they never will be able to afford one, so they hate it. And they don't have a clue about how it's built, NOT a tahoe/suburban/blazer at all. The only thing they can look forward to driving each day is their Prius..funnnnn lol.

Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
That's probably true. If they can't have it they try and ruin it for us all. I've had tahoes and yukons and yeah the Hummer is definitely different
|
Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
Ignorance...mainly. Most of the negative comments that I've heard/read are based on nothing more than what the individual themselves has 'heard/read' from one source or another...and the only information that is typically circulated about anything these days is negative and biased.
On the few occasions where I've had the opportunity, and actually cared enough, to correct such a person with factual evidence they've back down with "Oh, really? I didn't know that." It never ceases to amaze me how people will open their mouth and spout out 'facts' without a lick of knowledge/experience on a subject. My step-father used to call that "talkin' out your a55." "Believe none of what you hear and half of what you see." -Benjamin Franklin |
Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
^exactly. I've looked at other sites who are stating their hummer "facts" and its so far from the truth. As mentioned above most of these morons have no clue how the H2's are even built or by who for that matter. Luckily here in AZ I've never had any issues with mine since I've had it and have actually had compliments from other drivers on the road.
Fact of the matter is they are awesome vehicles, very capable all while being pretty darn comfy. |
Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
Most of it is gone, the people board themself to death over it, I have had some dumb little kids get behind me once and start flicking me off, but i kinda gave them a nut check by going from 60 to 0 in a second.
Another time I got flicked off on the highway.... probably cause I cut someone off.... maybe <.<......>.> |
Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
In all fairness, we get that same hate within our own Hummer community. It's sad to say, but very true.
|
Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
They have a whole site dedicated to H2 hate: FUH2.com
Funny, the biggest complaints they have about it is that its a gas guzzler, is dangerous to other drivers because of the raised bumpers, and they think theres some kind of magic tax loophole you get from buying one It mostly seems like envy to me, kind of like the occupiers who think rich people are evil |
Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
I've had pretty much all complements, but in Texas trucks are very popular, with many much larger than the Hummer.
I have a friend with a 4X4 Ford Excursion with a 6" lift. Parked next to it my H2 looks like a Toyota FJ Cruiser. |
Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
People are always going to hate just because none of them have the balls to rock a Hummer. People expect that we are big, bad mofo's that have mad money and we don't care about the world... sad reality is that I live a pretty normal life and my hummer spends much more time in the mountains and outdoors than it ever did in the city. With this, the granolas can drink their own piss because I guarantee I will be out there alive and well if there is ever a natural disaster just because I was smart enough to buy a ride to take me, my buddies, and my gear through hell and high water to get out of town.
They all just wish they had that kind of sense, but they live in their sardine cans in the city and drive their mouse-wheel powered hatchbacks. Don't think I would be asking them for help anytime soon if there was a disaster or an earquake as they would all be dead in the first 24 hrs... I guess I shouldn't rule out the zombie apocalypse either though now, should I. |

More lifted trucks here than regular trucks.
|
Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
I will also agree that the lifted truck trend is spreading fast in my hometown. Not that I mind! ;)

Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
You never can go anywhere unnoticed in an H2! I've gotten so many it's so ugly or it's an overgrown Tahoe remarks that I just smile at them and nod my head, however, when it snows everyone loves it. You're not going to change their opinion so it's not even worth it. I have a sister in law that for years, every time we take the Hummer to her house she says you brought the ugly one. I got the same thing when I had the Viper - "That thing is so ugly." I did the same then that I do now. I love my H2, I'm an old retired fart, and I really don't care what they think and for the most part it's jealousy on their part.

:twak: ...and you wonder why they bad mouth the hummer! Do not feed the mosnsters by commiting ignorant act in the streets. You slamming on the brakes only adds to the negativity of the H2's. I think I got called a nazi, pussy and a liberal for the same comments in another thread regarding the same issue, so expect the onslaught at any moment now:popcorn: |
Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
To answer your question as to where all the hate for the Hummer is coming from, look to the left.

Probably one of the more ignorant answers to give to any question, but it's entertaining, uneducated & unsupported at the same time:notallthere: I suggest you turn your radio/tv off and start thinking for yourself. :twak: I think people hate because they have issues in their own lives, regardless of it's a certain car, neighborhood, designer brand, color etc... The H2 is a big unit and was singled out as one of many vehicles as using alot of gas, but since the H2 was the largest and most popular at the time it got the most flack, but that's my opinion. I have friends with a Toyota Sequios, Denali Xls, Yukons and older Broncos. All of these vehicles get the same or in some cases even worst MPGs. |

Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
always going to be haters, for any vehicle you drive/have someone out there is going to hate it.
It's all hype though, everyone in the US follow trends like lemmings, if the mass hate it, individual followers will hate...but we here are not followers! we stand our ground and show the world that we get what we want! despite the hate! seems like people overseas LOVE the hummers though! i have friends in korea who are like OMG! :perfect10s: |

Agree with the overseas demand for Hummers. There was an article in the Wall Street Journal several years ago about all Hummers, the H1, H2 and H3 being shipped overseas in large numbers. We were In Costa Rica in January and with the mud and gravel roads we saw several Hummers and Jeeps. |
Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
Oh come on stock how can you live on the west coast and be so ignorant to the crap from the left yet still drive the most anti left vehicle availible.
And yes my actions did make the vehicle look bad, but two dumb teens aren't going to change their mind based off of my driving. :drama:  |

Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
There is no hate, do not assume such. I have the same 2003 H2 since Oct 2002, one of the very first Hummers, 140,000 miles, and I live in the ultra Liberal San Francisco area, I drive into the left wing City daily. I have received 100s of comments and gestures from friends and total strangers through the years, 100% positive.
I have made some mistakes to assume strangers are or about to same something nasty about my Hummer, but turned out to be all praises, if only I could get $10 for every praise I got. Same thing happened 3 days ago when I was at a truck stop gas station on my way back from Los Angeles(20th SF-LA-SF 7 hours journeys), a lady said something to me, she repeated it, "I love your Hummer!" I was at a convention in L.A. last week, when it was announced "A Black Hummer is blocking the truck, please move." Suddenly I saw 50 people all pointing and waiving at me, I did not know so many people know what I drive. In the first year or 2, nonstop total strangers waived at the Hummer everywhere, smiling and shouting. No other automobiles ever collected more praises than the Hummer. |
Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
I get lots of praise also with the H2. Friday I stopped for gas and they were selling Megamillions tickets at the station and as I was getting ready to leave a man came out and said, "If I win I'm buying two Hummers like yours." Yesterday, I was at my grandson's ice hockey game and when we were leaving two players and neighbors of my grandson came over and said, "Mr J can you take us home in your Hummer." Now that they aren't made any more you don't see as many of them on the street.

Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
it's the world we live in.. people can hate for the simple fact that they can, not even counting ignorance or jealousy.
that being said back in february I got my deuce nice and stuck out in the Lake sardis mud here in MS. and while i was waiting for my recovery call to arrive a group of 4wheelers pulls up and this guys kids is just loving my rig and talking to his dad about it. im about 20 feet away and he clearly says loud enough for me to hear, "Son its just a different body on a tahoe frame" to which his son replies, "Ive never seen a tahoe do something like that before" I just kept my mouth shut and gave a big smile.. people can hate all they want. bottom line the deuce is still sitting in my driveway no matter what kind of sh*t people want to run at me. Ignoring it makes them even more mad |

I'd actually be interested to know the percentage of parts that an H2 and Tahoe actually have in common. I'm thinking maybe 15%...and that's probably mostly interior instrumentation and controls; climate control, head units, etc. Then I'd like to cross reference a Wrangler and a Liberty and see what you get... ...and really, so what if it WAS a Tahoe frame and mechanics? The Tahoe is still a six-lug, body-on-frame truck with locking diffs and a V8. I bet this sucker would follow a Jeep/Hummer just about anywhere: ![]() |

One of my favorite "It's just a Tahoe" moments: A few years back I was stuck on a trail in ME with a broken OEM tie rod when some Wranglers and an old Bronco stopped to help to swap the parts. The Jeepsters were quietly trading giggles and Tahoe comments a few paces off as me and the Bronco driver got the part changed out. The old-head had been a mechanic for 20-30 years and owned a Ford dealership, he admitted that he had never been under (or near) a Hummer before; when he climbed back out, eyes wide open, and said, "This is a 3/4 ton, 8 lug truck!" The giggling stopped...and I smiled. |
Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
Giggle giggle...
|
Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
We don't get many hummers over here (merry ole england) and so i find that everytime i pull over anywhere, i get people asking me about it. I don't mind because im a fan of rare cars so i put myself in their shoes.
I have to say, i have had nothing but positive comments about it, which is shocking when you think of all the little hatchbacks we have over here. |
Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
Since I learned to drive with Blazers, Broncos, and Ramchargers the H2 was a natural fit. I get the usual "mileage" question mostly, but it provides an excellent opportunity to enlighten and inform...mileage is not great, but what do you expect from a vehicle this heavy or this large? Since the H2 takes a while to fill, I have time to describe walking away from the 80 mph impact my 03 took while I was stopped waiting on a redlight. The Expedition that hit me was mangled up like chewed bubble gum, while the H2 appeared to have only taken a bruising. Damage was much worse than it looked. :crying:
Never had any haters...I guess they know to keep their distance. I used to get positive comments more than now - when my '03 was the only one in town. Now their so common, you can't go a mile without seeing a few. Beyond the MPG inquiries, the comments now are regarding the unique color choice of my 06LE. Fusion Orange stands out a touch more than the Pewter '03 did. :D |
Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
I got "one of those looks" from an older women in a camry, she made some mubling statement, combination of vehicle, my driving, my age, her ignorance, her lack of tolerance, and downright her mental capacity, or lack thereof.
I gave her the gas to the floor salute. |

Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
Not that I need to justify why I bought an H2, but after seeing so much crap on I-15 (I'm stationed and live in Utah) I wanted a truck (okay, SUV) that offered high visability and tank like protection. Most people I meet that ask why I have/love it agree. I have had several mechanical issues but plan on keeping her for as long as she rolls; thanks to the plethora of talent/info on this forum! I just wish it could tow a bigger boat...

Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
I park at a train station as a daily commuter. The other day I come back to find someone hocked a nice fat loogie on my door.
Oh how I wish I was there to catch the SOB... |
Re: Where is all this hate coming from??
Had a moment today that was beyond bizarre. Parked at the grocery store, got out and found an elderly Chinese woman petting my truck. She jumped a little and said "Oh, I'm so sorry, I just had to touch it, it's so beautiful, so beautiful!"
No haters around here! :) |
