GM NAV DISC - Got it for free!!
Well, thanks to all member's input here, my severly scratched disc kept giving error, so I decided to call GM NAV support and see if I can get the free updated disc. What do you know? Jaq(I believe shorten for Jaqueline) was the CSR I spoke to and she knew that the offer expired on Dec of 09 for the free update, but since I have never applied for an update, she was going to send me a free updated disc today.(takes 7-10days to arrive) She was very nice and I did not even have to whine to get the free disc!!

You lucked out on it.
When you get the new disk make a copy of it. Use the copy and keep the original in a safe place because it will get scratched again |
Re: GM NAV DISC - Got it for free!!
The same happened for me a few months ago...I was simply calling to ask how much the latest version was going for. I then mentioned at that price I could buy a new GPS every year (nicely of course), she was nice enough and offered me a free copy. :) Don't ask, don't get!

What # did you call?

Re: GM NAV DISC - Got it for free!!
I think the rule was you get 3 free updates. When I called in for mine last year, I was told that was the second one. Apparently the previous owner had already cashed in and gotten his first free update.
Out of curiousity, I asked what year he did and they said in 2007. Unless he lost or damaged it, why would you get an update so soon. (my truck is a 2006) Anyway, still got one more unless the 2009 rule takes effect. Mark |

Actually, it is two free updates. GM calls it "Courtesy update". When I was talking to Jaq, which she was absolutely nice on the phone, she told me my 2007 offer for Courtesy update expired on Dec 31st of 2009, but she was going to go ahead and give me a update since no one ever claimed one on this hummer. |

What do you use to burn the DVD and does the copy works? I have heard it doesn't, but maybe there is a way? |

Re: GM NAV DISC - Got it for free!!
I just called the number and got connected to a customer service rep to be told that the disk is $199.XX and that therpogram has since ended and there was nothing she could do. I know that my Hummer never received an updated disk. I am thinking that I just got a lazy or unfriendly rep and they didn't want to do anything. Anyone have further insight? If anyone has a backup disk for their new one, I would be interested :)

What year is your H2? I would demand for a DVD since you have never received one, or demand to talk to a manager or supervisor. |
Re: GM NAV DISC - Got it for free!!
If you bought your vehicle from a Hummer dealer new or used before Feb of 2008 there should have been a coupon in the owners manual for the two free discs. If the sales rep told you about the two free discs, tell that to the rep when you call and you should get a "customer service" one time exception. Again, I believe the program ended in early 2008 so anything after that does not appear to qualify for the free nav disc. :beerchug:

Re: GM NAV DISC - Got it for free!!
Can anyone post pic of actual coupon? Does it have special code on it to give csr?

Re: GM NAV DISC - Got it for free!!
They will not ask for anything on it. It was a tear off card to mail back into GM..... There are no codes or anything on it... Again, the operator that answers will not ask for a copy of it...

Re: GM NAV DISC - Got it for free!!
Got my disc yesterday!! 2010 Update Version 8.3. Now I need to find a good DVD copy software since I was not successful with Ripit4me or FlashDVD to make a back up.

Re: GM NAV DISC - Got it for free!!
IMGBURN should do the trick. I am one of the unlucky ones that a back up will not work in my truck. My laser on my DVD must need an adjustment as I have to insert the copy mulitple times before it will read the copy.
Remember this is a dual layer DVD... |

Not so techno saavy, but do I need different blank DVD to burn dual layer DVD? |
Re: GM NAV DISC - Got it for free!!
Bought this for the H2. 7" across. It's for a RV. For $100, life time fee can download new maps 4 times a year for free. With SD card, I can load whole USA in it, plus all toppo maps, which don't change. It will do things like, put entire speed trap photo radar locations of entire USA and notify you when one is close. That's also $100 life time fee, updates. Yes it does more, can still find then in box never opened for about $300.
Tough screen. Vern:beerchug: ![]() |

You need to use a Dual Layer DVD. You will not be able to burn the map to a regular DVD once you create the ISO file from Imgburn (or any other ripping software) This is the issue with some of the readers on the units. Dual Layer DVD's require the laser to be set just right to read a copy DL DVD with great success. Many have been able to use back up copies in their units. For me, I cannot. |
