oil pressure issues
driving thru the midwest last year, up the mountians and thru the desert my truck will leak oil. i talked to the dealership and they said they added an oil pressure sensor. when i took my trip this year, same thing, hualing ass thru the desert and leaks oil. mostly over the driver side shock tower area. how can i get this under control?
now that im watching the oil pressure guage, driving like an old man reads right at 40. but if i drive normal (which isnt that fast) the guage hits 60. is this is an oil pressure sensor issue or 37s on stock gears cuasing this? |
Re: oil pressure issues
sure it is oil and not power steering fluid?
only reason i ask is i dont see how oil would get up on the shock area.. maybe it is PS fluid??? i just had an issue where the steering shaft had frayed the return PS fluid line and was leaking fluid all over the drivers side shock area. was your oil low at the end of the drive? check all your fluids. chances are whatever fluid is leaking regardless of where your driving. now thinking about it.. some other issues that could cause oil leaking that high up would be: oil is so hot it boils and shoots up the dip stick? you would see oil splatter everywhere though bad gasket on valve cover? not sure it would squirt out alot, but maybe a good trickle. bad head gasket? same as above.. might be easier to spot looking up from underneath the vehicle. also.. maybe it is tranny fluid??? there is cooling lines from the tranny to the radiator... maybe one got pinched? maybe a fitting got loose on the rad and the oil is going to the low spot on the line? inspect your engine compartment some more to see if there is any indication where it could be coming from. from the amount of oil it sounds like is leaking, there should be a very obivious indication where it is coming from. is there oil splatter on the hood? check the front of the engine where the fan is. if you can tell, or you have alot of gunk build up.. might be a good idea to power wash the compartment to clean it up some and try loking then. |
Re: oil pressure issues
Is it motor oil or gear oil? If its on the drivers side, check your breather lines that are just under the brake fluid res.Im not positive but I think they are for the front dif and t-case.

Re: oil pressure issues
From the sounds of it, it might be the front diff fluid coming out the breather. Had it happen with mine awhile back going up a grade in the heat. There is a fix for it where they add a filter to it and problem solved. Filter part number is 5651682.

Re: oil pressure issues
I think your right zach.
Front or rear axle fluid leak that appears to be from the end of the axle vent hose. Most often occurs during hot ambient temperatures and/or while towing. Recommendation/Instructions: Installation of filter (P/N 5651682) will act as an accumulator and prevent fluid from being forced out the end of the vent tube. Install the filter vertically in either direction approximately 4 - 6" (10 - 15 cm) from the end vent cap of the hose or where convenient. Retain the filter using the supplied hose clamps and secure the filter and hose to prevent any damage. |
Re: oil pressure issues
Agree 100%! I had the same issue when towing my bass boat on I70 in the Rocky Mountains on a July 90F day six years ago. Diff oil on the shock tower and frame. Took it to Castle??? Hummer in Denver and they put a gizmo [i]on the front diff and it's never done it again.

Re: oil pressure issues
yeah the first time it happened the dealer added (i thought it was a sensor at the time) the differential filter. no issues with it untill i took my trip recently and it started agian. do i need to replace the filter? anything else i can do?
im also running 37 military tires on steel wheels, going thru the desert at 90 mph.... maybe thats just TOO much?:raar: |
