Found Some Mud

Found out that I didn't have enough tire for this mud. Next time it'll be Trail Grapplers instead of Terra Grapplers. It was great fun though.

God damn that sucks man...was it one of those times your like- YEA, YEA, YEA....OH ****, and your sunk.

were you at high or low tide there? That **** creates a vacume making it hell to get out. There isn't any way you drove out of that. Fill us in on the recovery!

I know it's not fun to get stuck in the mud, but it happens no matter how big of a tire, some "muck" is just impassable. Most of us have had this lesson with our H2s. Luckily, mine was on the Lynch Hummer 2006 offroad yearly outing with mud up to my axles and I had plenty of help getting out. Even after I spray washed the undercarriage, mud clumps fell off for weeks.

Hopefully you had some other trucks there, sure aren't any anchor points nearby for a winch or come-a-long.

Damn dude that first pic just makes me cringe. That's a scary thing to be caught in the sand that close to the ocean.

How the hell did you get that out?

Second thought, how the hell did you get that in?????? Just sunk on ya?

No doubt, if that was low tide the clock starts ticking!

Re: Found Some Mud

I guess a 325/50/22 Terra Grappler is "low profile" relative to the 315/70/17 (2" shorter sidewall), but it is definitely not the typical "the chrome won't get you home" situation.
Anyway. The tide was low, but at one point I had water lapping at the door. We were driving along a washed out beach front road. All was well until, yes, it sunk! Talk about muck. I walked around to the passenger side of the truck and I sunk in it to my shins. I was with a buddy in a rigged out '77 Wrangler fitted with a 350ci chevy engine. We busted his winch attempting to pull it out backwards and forward. Almost dug the Jeep in. Ended up calling a recovery service. 80 yr old gentleman shows up in a bone stock F-150 4x4 with a tow hook in the receiver hitch. He apparently saw my dismay as I evaluated his rig and explained to me that technique was more important than size and power. He had enough tow strap to pull from high/solid ground about 150 feet away (north and east of my location). He connected said straps to my front tow hooks and his rear tow hook, instructed me to turn my wheels toward the direction of his truck and give it some gas when I see his truck start to move. He backed up to put some slack in the straps and drove forward giving enough of a jolt to break the suction. Three of those firm tugs and I was out. His truck never even got dirty. A good time was had by all. I plan on doing it again, once I get a winch and some Trail Grapplers. Had I had a winch, I coulda used a strap around his side frame rail and pulled myself free, maybe.

BTW, you can't tell from the previously posted pictures, but my truck has Nerf bars on it. I was buried to the rock guards.

Damn if I ever sink like that on the beach kill me or let the ocean take my hummer. I'd never hear the end of it a ford pulled me out.

Glad you got it out.

Ford...Chevy...Jeep...doesn't matter. Trust me everyone likes to bend your ear with the jokes when the Hummer gets stuck LOL!

Getting stuck is part of the fun...usually...you're kinda stuck coulda gotten ugly though. With the waves lappin' up on the door I'da been happy to see a Suzuki Sidekick with a tow hook. ;)

It is sad though when your "indestructible" truck all of a sudden is crippled by some nasty clay or mud, but I guess it just comes down to straight physics; doesn't matter the ride or power. Either way, it's nice to know that my chances of getting out of town are better than everyone elses in the case of an earthquake or flood, and looking good while doing it is a plus.
