Having an issue removing my spare tire carrier??
My spare tire carrier has a few spots where the powder coating has chipped and some rust has started. My plan is to have the carried freshly powder coated. I attempted to remove the arm that swings out with the tire on it. I removed the tire, wiring and set screw on the cylinder the arm sits it. The arm will not come off no matter what I do?? I pulled up on it while moving the arm back and forth, tried a floor jack with with a piece of wood, pry bar, beating it with a rubber mallet?? I'm at a loss?? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Re: Having an issue removing my spare tire carrier??
Just so happens I removed mine yesterday, but I didn't have any problems with it. Mine lifted right out after removing the screw. I think you could potentially put it in a bind if you are using a jack, you could use a board with the jack to evenly distribute the force. You might also try to add grease through the grease zerk to help lubricate it and ease in removal.

Re: Having an issue removing my spare tire carrier??
I used the wood to get the lift point right next to the cylinder so it wouldn't bind. I just greased it about a month back and there was grease oozing from the set screw hole after I removed it. From what you are saying and from what I have read there is definitely something wrong. One thing I should mention is that the set screw I removed looks rough on the end? Not sure if maybe a piece of it broke off or it's just from friction from years of opening the carrier. I'm honestly stumped?
