Edmunds.com states that driving a car off the showroom floor reduces its value by 16% and they give values of 20% for SUVs and light trucks. So if you paid 40K it's worth 32K when you pull it into the driveway. That really hasn't changed much in the last 50 years unless you are driving a low production volume, high cost vehicle - but there are exceptions to everything -- the ZR1?
