It's likely a bag and they can be tricky, sometimes leaking badly and other times holding air for days. That threw me off when ours developed air suspension problems, I reasoned there was no way a leak in the bags could be intermittant- but that's exactly what it was.
Don't tear everything apart, just pull the bags and replace them. If it's an 03, there is a programming update you should inquire about for the air suspension.
While you're getting that update, tell them to also update everything else. Early 03's had an issue with the "auto volume" not sending a signal to the amp unless you cycle the button with the engine running.
