wierd code
Driving down Lemmon Ave. here in Dallas, all of a sudden no power. I mean I can't go over about 5 miles per hour. On comes the check engine light and a code that says "reduced engine power". No **** Sherlock! I turn off the vehicle and turn it back on to recycle. Check engine light still on but I have full power. I make it to the dealer half a mile away. They give me an H3 loaner, call me 2 hours later and say all I needed was a software update. No charge. Whew! I thought the worst but all is well. Anyone else had " reduced engine power"? Scary.

That's the FIRST thing I've always been asked to check when using OnStar. GM needs to fix that problem.

Re: wierd code
You guys are getting reduced power with the fuel cap off? After a set time it is supposed to set a vapor leak code and turn on the light, but I have not heard of a reduced power mode.
Next time the programmer is over I'm going to have to check with him on that one.

Re: wierd code
My problem was not a fuel cap issue. At first we thought alternator, but it was a software glitch known to my Tech and he merely uploaded new software.

Re: wierd code
I had the code come on by my gas cap being loose. also by losing all power sounds like you cat conv. is bad, I replaced one at 50000 miles. vehicle lost all power would only go 5 mph, not sure when the warranty runs out, but it was still good for the cat conv at 50000 miles

Re: wierd code
Converter warranty is different between states. It should be in the owner's manual what the warranty is for each particular state.
