Default Accident tonight...what to look for?

On the way home from work tonight, sitting in traffic and was hit from behind. It appears the powdercoat on the rear bumper was chipped, my relocated license plate bracket was destroyed and it looks like the plastic bumper corner is closer to the body on the passenger side than on the drivers side. Nothing else apparent, but we'll see. The guys s10 blazer is ready for the scrap heap...not much left of its front end. What should I look out for, or point the shop in the right direction of? Have not had much luck in the past with body shops, so want to be as informed as possible when having to deal with them.

Thanks,
Chris

You'll want to check the metal beneath the plastic bumper corner - it's possible that may be bent as well. Sounds like you should have everything covered.

Concur.

If the plastic corner piece is misaligned then the thin gauge metal of the center section of the bumper is most likely tweaked. There's also a couple of little support struts that could be bent.

Do not have it repaired at the dealership, I worked for dealerships for 6 years and there buisness is based on selling cars and service repair, This is where the money is made. I do not want to discredit all dealerships but if you can find one that does a good job- that is all it will be then consider yourself luckey.Demand no less than new oem parts and not boneyard replacements and threw word of mouth or neighbors look for a high end shop. If you have no luck there call a local corvette restoration shop and as for referrals. The dealership will not have your best interest in mind whereas the highend shops will provide the professional repair because the monies are derived from this, and this alone.Consider a dealership a production line-the results are never the same.

That SUCKS!!! At least you are ok!!! As for your truck, I've tweaked my plastic corner pieces on more than one occasion and I can speak from experience that they are no big deal to get fixed properly.

Thanks for the pointers, seems like it is fairly straightforward. It was quite a week, hopefully I can get some shops to look at it this week. I still have yet to hear from their adjuster. Tracking the adjuster down was a job in itself. If I don't hear from them by Monday, I'll go through mine and have them pursue the other insurance company. I did take some photos, but they really don't show very much.

Is the rear bumper painted or powdercoated?
