Roof mount for spare tire only??
I have seen the 4.5 Gobi rack with tire mount, but I am really just looking for a roof mount for the tire only. I am not interested in all the extra metal for storage. I want a clean look.
Maybe there is something out there that just mounts to the stock roof rails?
I have a 2008 H2, any ideas out there?
Thanks!

Re: Roof mount for spare tire only??
Looking for the same solution. Is there a GM rack that fits the OEM luggage bars? Would it be possible to mount the tire in a small rack?
Thanks

Re: Roof mount for spare tire only??
hehe, any of you guys try to pick up the spare tire over your heads yet? Factory rim and tire is about 100lbs. Took me and a second person to get the tire up on my gobi rack.
I have road side assistance so its not gonna be my problem getting it down if I ever get a flat... but if you dont, I dont know how you easily could get it down besides just pitching it off the roof and hoping it doesn't bounce back into the truck or take off rolling down a hill...

Re: Roof mount for spare tire only??
There is a Factory GM basket that comes mounted on cross bar just like the factory ones that a spare tire fits into. It says hummer real big across the front, they have it on the build a hummer tool and ive seen one at Gerry Lane hummer with the basket with a tire in it. Also i agree with you on the geting it down part, took 2 people to lift it up to me and then i had to pull from the top to get that tire up there.

Re: Roof mount for spare tire only??
I was reading that the stock tires weigh in at 120lbs. I am betting with my chorme 18's and 37's im closer to 140 a tire. And that is the main reason I have not purchased a roof tire mount.

Re: Roof mount for spare tire only??
Way back when, I got one of those generic roof carrier. It comes with 4 suction pod feets. I inserted long steel rods to strengthen it, and use s/s pipe clamp to clamp it to the H2 roof bars. It's just wide enough to fit the spare.
1) It was plenty strong, and since the carrier is kindda sitting on the edges of the oem bars (clamped tightly), the weight of the tires is not on the suction-cup feet (which would potentially dimple the roof).
2) It was a biatch to put up or down (though I did do it by myself -- by opening a tall ladder next to the H2, and "rolling" the tire up the rungs onto the car roof).
3) After seeing trail photos, it just looked too goofy for me.
4) I took it down & bought a rear-tire carrier.

I used this set-up for awhile on my 2004 H2, but that tire really is heavy so I ended up using the rear bumper mount. The OEM basket is OK, I believe it is rated for 160 pounds, but it was a bit flimsy for the tire.
I still have the set-up in storage: OEM Factory GM basket as described above which connects directly to factory cross bars. I added a Thule or Yakima tire carrier. Too large to ship, but if anyone in Las Vegas wants to try it, let me know.
