I'm a newbie
Well hello all, I am a newbie to the forums and to Hummers. I have been a Jeep guy my whole life. I have had many fully built jeeps and a few stock ones. So I do get the jeep thing, I still love them.
Also I should probably appologize to all of you first. As you can tell by my name, I am a recent Hummer convert. I was one of those guys that used to badmouth the Hummers. Yes it's true, and I am sure noone else here was ever been one of those guys also , but I was. Was it jealosy, ignorance, or just plain boredom? Who knows, but the fact is that after doing as much research as I can, reading countless posts, crawling all through and under many h3's, I have started my conversion to being a Hummer lover, not a hater. So I offer my most humble appologies.
I will be buying an H3 in the next few months, and begining a conversion to hopefully a very capable expedition style vehicle. Including, lockers, slight lift, rooftop tent, safari rack, bull bar, winch, etc. etc. etc.
ARB is developing all the nessasary gooding for these rigs now that it is being imported into aus, so I plan on equiping my rig to do some fun expedition style trips in the northwest.
I hope to get to know some of you better and build a bond with a once misunderstood crowd that I am now trying to embrace.
Signed,
Your newest Hummer convert!
Andy

Re: I'm a newbie
No bling for me. Probably not an alpha because I am on a tighter budget. I will probably get a fairly basic 06 and build it from there. I already have a safari touring rack and Simpson II arb roof top touring tent on my 97 Grand Cherokee that I will move over. The less bling the better, I looked at a white 06 yesterday with 20" wheels with rubber band tires, and the sales guy couldn't believe I wanted them to put the stock wheels back on that they pulled off. I will be getting one as soon as I can, I am selling my toy hauler and 04 ram 2500 first then I will be ready to purchase.

Re: I'm a newbie
welcome - good idea to get the basic H3; however, make sure you get the adventure model, I didn't, and I regret it now. You'll probably want to look at manual transmission models too?

Re: I'm a newbie
Do you loose anything with the adventure package besides the lift and locker/gears? If not, then I won't care much being that I will probaly pull it for an air locker and OME lift. The 2 speed transfer case is standard without adventure right?

Re: I'm a newbie
the only thing the adventure package has added on is the rear locker and and 33" bridgestone Deuler's, also i think the suspension is a little bit different. I dont have any of it, and when i go wheeling i havent had any issues yet without having that stuff, however i am going to upgrade to those tires as soon as these are done. As for the "06, you know if you go with the "07 its 242 hp 242 lb-ft 3.7 litre engine instead of in "06 it was 220hp and 220 lb-ft and a 3.5 litre engine. Dont know if that makes a difference to you, all i know is i was easly able to tell the difference between the two.

Re: I'm a newbie
Thanks for that, I did know there was a difference, but did not know it was that big of a noticable difference. I will have to test drive both to be sure.

Maple Valley? They wear shoes in MV?!
Just kidding...welcome to the forum...I'd rather be in MV than Bellevue! So you're 1 up on me.
Dave92270 is right -- basic adventure -- some of us learned after-the-fact.

Re: I'm a newbie
It was a tasty critter! Worked well with the mashed potatoes and gravy! Shot him with a .44 from 25 feet! Anyways... Welcome! And, it's good to see that there are people in this state not afraid to drive a Hummer. Now...if you happen to have a small trailer, with a couple of quads, and are going hunting....

The Adv. pack has the lower 4:1 t-case, rear e-locker, 33" tires, and stiffer shocks. The base t-case is around 2.7:1. All models (except Alpha) come with 4.56 gears. There is no lift with the Adv. package.

Ahh, good to know about the t-case. I will have to keep my eyes out for the adv package.

Do the adventure package with the manual transmission. You will be very happy!! You don't want to drive around on goodyear 32's do you?
I will be up in Seattle next weekend for the Hawks game.

Re: I'm a newbie
After years in my yj I know the advantages of the manual transmission off road, however after years in my yj I wil definately get an automatic. I am tired of shifting gears.
