I also get the negative comments from the male mini-van drivers. I just laugh it off and ask " Are you you pissed off because your wife makes you drive a mini-van? That usually shuts them up. The worst I think was this mini-cooper who tried cutting off and then play the break check game. When I asked want his problem was He what a ****ing waste of gas and sheet metal. I responded by handing him my cell phone and saying Dude its your sister and she wants her little bitch-mobile back!

I once had a couple of tree huggers come in to the dealership and when I asked if they needed help or if I could answer questions they snapped out "We just wanted to see this waste of a vehicle up close" I was on the clock so i had to be professional. "It is a great SUV for people who want something diffrent and off road proven" The dude was ready to verbally throw it down with waste of gas, size and all when I said "look this is my job and if your not intrested in a Hummer let me show you a GMC, or Pontiac" The female tree hugger made a noise and said were not intresed in a new vehicle. So I said thank you very much but I need to go help real customers. When they ere walking out i smiled and waved. I wanted to kcik the jerk in the nuts for wasteing my time. There are stupid people everywhere.

I personally have not had a single negative comment on my truck. Like Ken, most people want to see the inside. And for some weird reason, "most" are 40 yr old guys driving minivans. Scary.

The second most popular comment I get is "if I could afford one of those, I'd get the yellow too!"

And my all time favorite answer -- "because I can!"

I got asked today, while filling up, how much a new H2 costs! I wanted so bad to say, honey, if you don't know, then you don't need to be asking! But, NO... I was nice this time!

With regard to cost, my favorite answer is still "about $8 a pound."

Mostly have had positive questions/comments, but there is the occasional nitwit without a clue. You can usually see them coming a mile away almost ready to burst at the seams to make someone's day more difficult.

One ditzy broad asked, "what would you buy a vehicle that big for?" I went on to describe how "I just saw a an accident involving ('whatever vehicle the interrogator was driving') and both occupants were CRUSHED by a VW running a red light upon side impact. I don't think they lived."

Regarding the fuel questions, it's usually from someone driving a duallie, so the recommended response is "better mpg than that duallie over there...oh, that's yours?"

Sometimes the positive comments are funny as well. One Jeep guy I spoke with while filling up said he'd trade his wife for an H2! Guess his home life is lacking!

You could always wear an NRA hat to limit some of the questions!

Whenever I get the milege question I answear "bad to worse". It usually gets some laughs. When I feel like seeing if the person asking the question is really paying attention I respond with: about 13 gallons per mile. You'd be amazed how many people go "oh thats not really that bad."

I agree - I say what it will really get for MPG and most people say the two of the following:

Bull****
or
Wow..not as bad as I thought!

Speaking of having to be professional...just 10 minutes ago, I experienced a "Hummer comment" that has me SO phucking ready to go ballistic on this bitch here at work. Some guy was walking around showing people a comic strip that had something to do with getting rid of your material possessions. The guy with the joke was teasing this hag because she didn't get the joke, so she replies "Go show it to Pete, see if he gets it, he's in to material things." I asked her what that was supposed to mean, and she said "Well, you drive a Hummer." I let her walk off, keeping my mouth shut, but I don't know how long I can last before giving her a real nasty piece of my mind.

She's always making comments that make it obvious that she's jealous that others have more than she does (plus, she's in her mid-forties and can't find a man), so maybe I shouldn't say anything to make her realize her faults...let her live out her miserable lonely existence being just that, miserable.

-Pete

Yeah - but it just feels better when you gun them down with words!

I would bite my lip though too if it was some woman that worked with me.

If it was someone in my department, I would have already said something, but she works for my #1 (internal) customer.

People act like these things are 40 ft long and weigh 10000 pounds. I'm quick to tell everyone that it's actually smaller and easier to get around in the H2 than it was in my previous truck, an extended cab dually. It gets better mileage, too! Not quite as much power, but I can deal with that.

I really should have said something like, "what do you mean by that? Are you saying something bad about my vehicle? That is really hurtful and not very nice of you. I can't believe a professional such as yourself would make a comment about a customer's vehicle like that."
and walk out.

If someone's wanting an argument and you give them the guilt trip, it may stay with them for a while and they won't do it again.
