Rear Hatch

This has probably been kick around a few times in the past. I picked up my H-2 two weeks ago and now I hear a rattling noise coming from the rear hatch when I hit bumps in the road. I realize it's not my tire carrier because it's inside and I checked it. I called the dealer about it and made an appointment to get it looked at. They told me that alot of customers have been returning with the same problem. They said its no big deal and easy to fix. Has anyone else had this problem? I was just wondering what was causing the rattle. Thanks for your input!

The plastic on the rear panel is just loose and needs to be fixed, not sure how they do it, just know that is what it is... Hope you get it fixed...

I have been hearing the same thing when going over bumps. Its common enough that the dealers are fixing it by telling them the hatch rattles?

2003 Pewter H2, Tire relocator, painted hard tire cover, billet gas cover, MC2 chrome hood handles, stainless bumper letters, 15% tinted front windows,pioneer nav/dvd, xm sat, headrest monitors, tv tuner, defenderworx hood latches, side vents, and marker bezels.

BTW Watch out always when closing the rear hatch the rear bumper is completely clear.
Recently I left a couple of locking wheel nut adaptors on the rear bumper and after closing the rear hatch they got jammed between door and bumper. It was very hard to open the rear hatch, because the door locks were already engaged. But finaly w/ some maneuvering with the door (pressing, pushing, pulling) it finaly opened. Certainly not good for the (door) locks, in case this happens too often...

SERVICE VME
Should a customer detect a rattle in the rear of the vehicle and you detect that it is in the tailgate, the condition could be contact between one of the tailgate latches and the side of the striker. This is extremely difficult to diagnose. To do so, apply tape to both strikers and then close the tailgate. Check to see where the latch is contacting the striker by the witness mark on the tape. Latch contact to the striker must be as close to center as possible. Adjust the cross car position of the strikers as required.

Please follow this diagnosis process thoroughly and complete each step. If the condition exhibited is resolved without completing every step, the remaining steps do not need to be performed. If these steps do not resolve the condition, please contact GM TAC for further diagnostic assistance. This diagnostic approach was developed for the vehicle with the VIN you entered and should not be automatically be used for other vehicles with similar symptoms.
