A former California police officer is behind bars accused of sexually assaulting a teenage boy in the Las Vegas valley.
Shawn Shelton is accused of luring a 14-year-old boy into his black H2 Hummer last week, and sexually assaulting him. The boy was sitting at a bus stop near Desert Inn and Pecos-McLeod.
According to the arrest report, police say that Shelton pulled into a parking lot near the bus stop and called the teen over. The boy told police that the man showed him some kind of badge and identified himself as a police officer who was investigating a murder and the teen fit the description.
Police say Shelton handcuffed the teen, searched him, took his cell phone out of his pocket and had him get into his
black Hummer H2.
The 39-year-old Shelton used to work for the Manhattan Beach Police Department. He is also a former Los Angeles County sheriff's deputy. He was arrested on Friday in Corona, California.
Shelton has a lawsuit against the Manhattan department charging them with discriminating against him because he is gay. That suit is on appeal and still pending.
Shelton was also arrested in December and charged with posing as a police officer and trespassing in Simi Valley with an 18-year-old male.
