Pathetic. What did the Hummer owners of this site do to make you have annoy them so much? H1 and H2ers included.

It's sad to see a ~30 year old guy try so desperately to be included in a group, but lacking every social skill known. This must be like high school all over for you again, huh?

I have a 5 speed manual stick and also have no problems towing. I am towing a 3 place snowmobile trailer with it as well as a 17 foot walleye boat. I am guessing both are probably somewhere around 3000 pounds.

You aren't going to win any speed races, but it tows just fine.

I tow my utility trailer around, and I tow my snowmobile trailer no prob. I got an extended drop hitch. I agree with keeping it in 3rd, needs to be there or it shifts too much.

Although I am a fan of the entire Hummer lineup, the H3 was the only Hummer (or GM vehicle) that I even considered when I purchased it in 2005. H3 is the right size, right capabilities, right styling and reasonable gas mileage for my purposes.

I have just reached a point where all I do is stick my arm up in the air and make the minimum wage minions work to give me my change.

This may be of some interest to those that off-road. I understand that many foks like to trail a good Military trailer behind them to carry their gear. Me, I just like the collectablilty of the trailer as well as the character it brings to the H3. Much like the older Army vehicles. Works for the H1, and 2's also.

Now with it repainted, it looks more like New.

Those are real cool and very well built, but heavy as hell.

They're rated for a 1/4 ton of gear. The trailer itself is only about 775 lbs.

Default Re: towing?

I did a search on line for a USGI 1/4 ton trailer and was finding project stories all over the place.
Apparently, the US one's were all made back in the 60's for the Jeep series, and have been used to trail behind all types of Military vehicles hence forth. Needless to say, the surplused pieces are real beat up, and have been completely restored by those who bought project trailers and had the time, money, and expertise to re-build them.

The problem is they have been rebuilt for the person who did the rebuilding! So they are very hard to come by in any decent condition.

So through my searches, I find that the Canadians also developed a trailer based on the US version and made some Modifications to Beef it up!
It was designed to be used with their Jeep equivalent, the Volks Wagon Iltis.

This group of trailers were made by DEW Manufacturing, in Ottowa, I believe.

There were 2000 units made in 1992, and never got put into service.
I bought mine from a guy in Colorado who obtained 60, that were shipped stacked three tall on skids. I bought one of the last three he had. There was a little surface rust so I had it stripped and prepped, then Re-Painted in OEM OD Green, and will reapply the decals that were removed for the job.

From time to time they pop up on eBay, and under searches, but IMO these are going to be the last of the Military 1/4 ton Trailers.
Since some of the H3 Components are made in Canada, I think the M101 CDN2 trailer makes a nice compliment.

Here is the website for the Colorado dealer. HTH
