Okay, removed the tape this morning. The black silicone stuck like a champ, no movement in the trim at all. Drove up to 80 mph at lunch time strong cross winds and all, blissfull silence, well at least from the A-pillars
If you have this annoying problem, spend the 20 minutes and just do it. At least for now, looks like the silicone (or RTV) is THE solution, plus in my opinion this will keep all the crap from getting behind this trim piece, as well. Mine my packed full of dirt and debris.
