I was just at an auto show over the weekend.

The folks at the Hummer booth said (* I know this is not the most reliable source of information) that the SUT would go into production in April.

This would seem to indicate that the first SUTs would roll off the line in June-July (*which seems to coincide with the Hummer.com site information that says "expected to hit dealer lots in late spring/early summer of 2004).

With the above said, the SUV is set to change model years to 2005 sometime around September-October if memory serves correct (* I am going off of the release of the 2004 SUV).

This would make the SUT and SUV have non-concurrent model years, whereas most other GM families have coterminus model years.

The GM site also says that the 2004 SUT will be a "limited production run."

So does anyone know when GM will sync up the model years for the SUT and SUV.

Bottom line, when can we expect the 2005 SUV?

And, when can we expect the second generation of the SUT (I suppose as a 2006 model year?).

What I've heard about the SUT production and release dates is the same as your info. SUT production starting April and SUTs hitting the lots June/July.

I've also heard that the 2004 SUV will be a short run model year. That leads me to believe that the 2005 SUV and SUT will be released at the same time. The SUT will have a 2005 VIN.

I haven't heard anything about SUTs with 2004 VINs.

Same here. 2004 SUV will be short model year. 2005 model SUV will join the SUT coming in June/July.

If I'm not back in five minutes... wait longer!

OK guys,

I agree with your take, but what does Hummer mean when they say the SUT will have a "limited production run?"

Let's say that the 2005 SUV and SUT launch in July. Are we saying that the SUT will simply be coming off of the line in fewer numbers or do they mean to imply that the model year will be short?

Do you guys think that the model years would then sync up after that - for example the 2006 SUT and SUV coming the next July?

I know this is all speculation, but it is fun...

I think that means that they will not be producing the SUT in the same numbers as the SUV. I think they only plan to make something like 15,000 units per year, where the SUV is something like 40,000 per year.

The model years will synch up in June/July. The 2004s were the late release.
2003 H2 - July
2004 H2 - Sept
2005 H2/SUT - July
2006 H2/SUT - July
and so on...

Dan,

You are the man. I agree with your take.

So, do you think we can expect any big changes for 2005?

I think this will be the year for me to buy - and I think that I now have my eye on the SUT.

It seems like all of the bugs should be worked out by 2005, but at the same time I don't want to buy just before a major redesign. I heard something in another post here that referenced an auto spy web site about GM intending to reduce the overall height of the H2 by 8" (*Not ground clearance - these are different things) and improve gas mileage, and drastically improve the interior.

Any truth to the above?

I would love to buy in July (for the 2005 model year) - what great timing for the summer!

Can a lady contribute?

2004 will be a short model year for HUMMER. HUMMER will start production on 05 H2 SUV and SUT in April with vehicles being available to purchase in the late Summer months. Limited means that HUMMER will not exceed customer demand and that the SUT will not be equal in amount to SUV numbers
