Default Painted Fuel Door

I didn't want a chrome or black fuel door. Purchased the chrome Hummer door and took it to a professional/high end paint/body shop. They sent it out to have the chrome removed (chemically) and then prep/paint/clear coated Boulder Grey to match body/tire cover.

Ken,

It looks real good...

What did it cost for the refinish of the door (remove chrome & paint to finish) ?

Excellent idea and great look. Maybe GM-Hummer should sell this in the factory colors (since there only a few).

I like it. I have been trying to figure out what to buy chrome or black but I now know what to do.

Only sugestion would be to buy the back powder coaded one instead of the chrome. With the proper etching primer there would be no need to spend any addidional money on the removal of the chrome.

Also there is a company on the web called NMB Paints which will send you a one or two step spray paint can that they mix themselves. I tried it with my H and painted the front skid plate and the color was a perfect match.

Does GM make black fuel door? If so what's the part number?

The truck doesn't need any more chrome and I don't really need a locking cap. Just something to keep the dust out.

Not that I'm aware of.

Jason, who runs this site offers lockable and unlockable black and chrome doors in smooth and slotted looks.

Thanks for the responses. I preferred the look of the OEM, but not the chrome.

The door kit was $147, de-chrome $58, and paint/clear coat $120 = $325

Probably too much, but that happens sometimes - I'm happy with the results.

I have been wainting to do something like that to my black fuel door. My problem has been getting the paint. I will check the code, call NMB Paints on Monday and get the process started. I am a whiz with a spra can. No telling where I might end up. Maybe change the black in front to the H3 color as well. Now, do I prep or just go to it? Fun time!

Talk to the guys at NMB Paints, they are pretty knowledgeably and have been around for a while. We ran into an issue with my paint. On the door jam it shows H13 as the paint code. I also did so research and found the same H13 code (yellow). He mixed it and it was no where near the right color. He did some investigating and the color code for the yellow Colorado was the same match.

Here is the link.

The paint is on the inside of the glove compartment door. There is listing of codes for parts and it is included there. The paint shop I used went right to it and color matched.
