Default elcova forums saved me a headache and probally a lot of cash!!

as of last week my 03 h2 (37,000 miles) started to make a clunking sound when i would make sharp turns, u turns etc. so i took it to the dealer they greased the tie rods and said "seems like it worked we don't hear the clunking sound anymore"?..i didnt either until i got off the highway near my house. so i called another dealer near my city and took the h2 to them explained the problem told them about the first dealer greasing my tie rods. so what they did was remove the skid plate greased all the zerks in the front end put the skid plate back on. and called to tell me "it still clunks a little you just gotta let the grease settle in for a few days" (whatever?) so when i got home i jumped on my comp found this forum used the search function and found a thread were someone was haveing the same issue and was told to take the skidplate off and drive around to see if the clunking is still there? so i did this and low and behold no more clunking! couldn't make it happen even if i wanted to.. did figure eight's. drove around town without it. nothing! im so stoked!! i wanna say what a forum! ive had my h2 for just a few months and loveing it..looks like i found a cool place to share the joy of the hummer with everyone else!!

Just wanna add the skidplate didnt appear to be damaged or even have bent corners? Also all the bolts were on tight.. i might try to put a few washers ont the bolts to shorten them up a little? dont know why or how the skid plate was causing this?

glad the problem seems so minor, but we have not heard of this complaint. post if the washers fix the issue.

If you glue some polyurethane washers to the top of the holes on the skid plate it will help with the popping. My skid plate is mangled, but the bushings keep it from popping.

so after a few days of driving around with out the skidplate no popping clunking etc. today i re-installed it with rubber bushings and it started to clunk again but not as bad. looking at the skidplate i couldn't see any visible damage or bent corners? i also went on each corner with a screwdriver and applied some pressure outwards. has anyone else had or has this problem???

Ya Mine was clunking to sounded like a cv joint binding ,so i took it in and they said the same thing, that iy was the skid plate.they took it off cleaned it and reinstalled.it was quiet for a couple days, now it sounds worse. It sounds like something is going to snap.I live in a town with no hummer dealership so anything i do for warranty takes forerver.
