Rocky Road Rails Hunner MOD
I love my Rocky Road rails. Great product. I still wanted some way to protect the exposed seam or the rocker panel under there. Rocks around here are sneaky and roll around when you go over them. Today I made it much harder for them to get to it. I used 3/8 by 3 steel and plugged that gap. This time I cut the bolts shorter because it was harder to get them in there! Im sore from crawling around but I did not have to jack up the H3.

Re: Rocky Road Rails Hunner MOD
Well we could have tack welded them from underneath but we come from a race car and boating background and always overdo things to prevent or prolong failure. We griped about it but did it anyway. Ha ha It was easier with help this time and a floor jack and shorter bolts. If you have someone tack it on from underneath be sure to disconnect your battery!! Also I wanted to paint them to prevent rust and we had to grind off paint and then repaint so, yuk, took them off. I used a good oil based primer and good acrylic enamel. I figure they are gonna get wet and muddy alot. Starting tomorrow actually!
I did not weigh them but could figure it out. They are heavy! If I come down on them with a 5000 lb vehicle they better be! You can lay a lot better bead on the top side. I hate welding upside down. With these and my wider spring shackle skid front and rear of springs and GM skid plate under carriage and new Mickey Thompson MTZ's Im ready to do some field testing..............

Re: Rocky Road Rails Hunner MOD
Im going to have to get on a lift to get a good overall shot of the under side. I will work on that. I centered it over the rocker panel edge.

Re: Rocky Road Rails Hunner MOD
Just the usual trying to get my fat hands in there. The extra piece did not interfere with anything. First idea was 1/4 inch material but that was wimpy especially on the longer span. We thought about fabbing another bracket but that thought passed when we just wanted to git er done. That 3/8 is some stiff stuff. We will see. Testing in progress.

Try laying on your back and supporting one end with your hands and the other with your feets long enough to start the bolts and tell me that. YOU funny. I showed you mine now show me yours, I think that would be safe at this distance. Ha ha Better yet show me your rocker panel after wheeling over rocks, if you do that?? Oh I get it now, H2 what does that weigh? It won't matter it would be tough to go where I go. The only H2's that did both broke tie rods!! Oops I got suckered into the great debate. sorry

I hate when that happens.
Fortunately I only lost one of the rear roof lights. Although it sounded like absolute hell.
Anyone else care to admit to a bonaar like this???

Sounds like you need one on top!! Going to the mall can be rough.

Re: Rocky Road Rails Hunner MOD
Nice looking mod to the rails. I set one end on a cooler that raised those things to nearly the right height. Beat using my size 13s to prop them up to get the first bolt started! Toes would get VERY tired!
