So many people recommend so many different tires that I am confused. Well, okay, I'm just confused in general anyway, but please help me out on this.
I want to go with 37" tires without a lift - only an adjustment of the torsion bars as needed. I want the most aggressive off-road tires that are still most civilized on road (ie quiet, smooth, etc.) When i drive off-road it's in serious sand and rocks. I want to mount them on the OEM wheels. What is your choice? If not one of these, please post and tell me what tire and why?

Why not BFG MT's? Or did you forget to put those on? I didn't vote becasue I would vote for the BFG MT's since I have had two sets of them over the last four years. To be fair though, I had a 33" set on my Tahoe and than went to 37's on H2's. I would have to say that the most expensive is going to be the Toyo's and the most difficult to get too. But from talking with a couple of members on this site, they like these the best. My next set will be Toyo's for sure!
I forgot one thing though. Toyo's in the 37" tire are 13.50 wide and since you are in sand and will air down quite a bit, if you have air susp, you will flex the tire at lower preasures and break that airbag sensor (arm in the rear wheelwell).

Going through the same issue myself.
BFG mt - can't get 'em
MTR - don't like 'em...noisy as they wear...very hard
Super Swampers/Mickey Thompsons/IROCs/etc... - too hard core for the street
Nitto Mud Grapplers - too noisy
Toyo MTs - perfect for me but nobody can get 'em and as timco pointed out...they're 13.5s
So after searching far and wide on this board and others, I think I'm gonna go with the PJ Dirt Grips. They kick ass off road, are well mannered on road, great in snow, and are relatively cheap at around $250/tire.
I hear they're hard to balance but I have a good shop here that I'm sure will manage it fine. Treadwear is supposedly average at best but if I can get over 20k on them I'll be happy. I've been waiting for friggin 50k miles for these damned BFG ATs to wear down enough to justify replacement.

I use the BFG Mud Terrain T/A. I live in country that is wet and muddy though. They work good on the rocks, but the AT's probably do better in that fine dusty stuff in the desert because the Mud's will dig down thru it, where the AT's will help stay on top of it. I actually witnessed this in Elko when we were trying some steep hills in fine, puffy, powdery dirt. BTW, the stock AT's do go just as many places in Moab that these other mud tires go. Just ask CO Hummer. 
Oh yeah, don't forget the cool factor. Mud tires look really cool.

Yeah...I'm really leaning toward 37" BFG At's. I really like the stock tires, but that extra inch of clearance would be nice.....and they look better when it comes to filling the wheel wells.

BFG Mt's are best IMO. I just wish they would come siped like the Toyos.
Never go wrong with the BFG AT's 37s. Best of both worlds for non-hardcore wheelers like me.

 Can't you find them any bigger? Rubbing probably depends on the offset of your wheels.
Cool factor gets an 8.5.
Noise gets a 9.5.

albie, those things are gona be noisy. Like H2Rocks says 8.5 cool factor 12+ noise, folks will hear your tires before they hear your planned exhaust |

I has the swamper ssr's they lasted 35k and were great off road and fine on. I went with the new TrXus MT's they are supposed to be great on snow, ice & rocks we seem to always be in one or the other up here in the frozen tundra
I pick em up on thursday & we are supposed to get 6-8 inches between now and then so I should be able to put them to the test right away. |
