Check this out... best gas mileage I've seen yet...
When I got the truck back, I immediately installed a PPE tune.
I've been averaging 13-15mpg in mixed driving. That's not babying it but it's not beating the crap out of it neither...
I sold the PPE and installed a Diablo T1000 Trinity tuner.
It only adds about 120HP and 240 ft. lbs of torque to the existing 300/520
Granted, it's only been two days but I've driven it enough to know what it's been doing.
Here's what I'm averaging the last two days... still running 75 on the highway and driving normal around town. (50/50 mix)
I'm having to send the Diablo back because I can't adjust for gears or tire size but hopefully the new tuner will get me the same results.

Hi Mark, that is some great numbers!! Are both tuners having a problem with setting gears and tire size?

No, the PPE was adjustable and I could remove the ABS and BRAKE light by setting the correct numbers.
The Diablo has NO ability to do so.
Yesterday I ordered this EDGE unit...
It has 7 levels of tuning from a towing setting to up to 180 additional HP and 385+ ft. lbs. of torque.
I drove the truck yesterday in the city all day... no highway at all and averaged over 18 mpg.
It seemed if I stepped on the gas harder than normal, it would drop the average down a bit but it always pulled it back up to the 18-19 mark.
Apparently with the 24 mpg, I did more highway driving than I thought but in all fairness, I spent a lot of time yesterday with my truck idling while I ran inside here and there to take care of business.
I see I'm going to have to replace rear tires. If I just try to merge from traffic out of my shop's driveway, I'll leave more rubber on the ground than on the tires. Definitely going to have to curb that action...

So how does these tuners work to achieve the MPG? Little skeptical on the significant MPG increase and just want to know what the concept is to make a vehicle that gets 10-12MPG average to 24MPG...

I did the Duramax conversion... its running a 6.6 Duramax diesel with allison transmission.
The more you lean out a diesel, the better it runs but the more economical is becomesfuel wise.

Very nice! But, if you have not set the tire size, then you are actually getting a little better than what it is showing you, because you are really driving further than the truck thinks you are.

Maybe you should have tried to stay with all wheel drive!

Actually, no...
Though I have 38's, I also have 4.56 gears.
Point is, that's proportionally the same as 4.10's with 33" stock tires.
So I'm sure it's right on... it just needs to be written for the abs light.

Allow me to be the first to say...
I hate you.
Edit; I take it you don't have the edge unit yet? I've been looking at that for my truck, not sure if it's really worth it for a gasser but it sure would look pretty on the dash!

What would you say the overall cost was for the entire conversion?

Thanks bud... now I can die in complete rest knowing I have made some of you jealous...
No, I ordered the unit CTS and the company I was getting it from didn't have it in stock. I ordered it from another company and I'll have it Monday.
I know for a fact that the tires/gears are adjustable on the Edge and with the different tunes, I'm hoping to pull the same sort of mileage out of it.
I BEAT on the truck yesterday and after an entire day of squeeling tires, smoking tires (you'd be amazed how much smoke rolls off the back of a big tire...lol) I finally got the average mileage to reflect in the 15's.
If I drive it nice (like a normal person, it's easy to get low 20's) I tend to have a heavy foot and I'm thinking around town 17's are going to be the average.

I got a deal which won't happen again but you can call Travis (I listed his number a few threads above) I'd say the total cost will be in the low 20's but you really need to discuss that with him.

Hi Mark, you forgot to add the cost of a new set of back tires to the cost of the conv.

Re: Check this out... best gas mileage I've seen yet...
Yeah, I'm afraid that will cost more than the conversion...
Once the newness wears off, I'll calm down but for now... it's fun.

Aint that the truth
Im interested in seeing the results with the Edge tuner. I'm running a Hypertech max now but really only saw minimal returns with power and milage, granted you can adjust for gears and tire size but it retails for almost the same price as the edge ($400 ish vs $5something?) without the nice display.

Apparently the diesel tuners are more...
The PPE was over 800 bucks, the Diablo was almost 600 bucks and the Edge tuner was 850....
I was told by an Edge rep that it should produce the same results except since I got the race version, it will produce even more HP/TQ (180/385) I think.

Re: Check this out... best gas mileage I've seen yet...
Yesterday I drove to ride the 4 wheelers. My trailer weighs almost 2K pounds, my UTV weighs 1300, another UTV (smaller one and another atv) Roughly a little over 4000 pounds.
Point is, I changed the programmer to "towing" and was running 85 to 90 the entire way. The truck never once left overdrive going up hills.
Unfortunately at those speeds with that load and going up hills, I only averaged 11 mpg.

Re: Check this out... best gas mileage I've seen yet...
Mark, what fun that big diesel must be! It's too bad that Hummer didn't stay around long enough for AMG to offer a diesel H2 - I think it would have been a big seller. A good friend has one of the new Chevy HDs with the diesel and allison, he tows a lot of horses in trailers and absolutely loves the diesel. Before he had a Ford HDF250 and averaged 6 mpg on his long tows, now he averages 13 with the same trailer and load. He also went through 2 transmissions on his Ford F250 because of all the shifting it kept doing in the hilly areas going back and forth from Missouri to Lexington, KY.
