I realize this info my be in the manual but why would it say the road may be icy if the temp said 37F?

because of bridges. They freeze first as the air passes under because the don't have a soil base for insulation as normal roads.

You are correct, bridges do freeze first but it's still impossible from even a bridge to to get ice on it if the actual temp hasn't reached the freezing point of 32F.

I just went out and at 36 it said the same thing. I think this is a cool feature sometimes we do not pay attention to conditions that may be hazardous

The manufacturers are always going to lean to the conservative side. I have an open top street rod and you can be going and pass an area that is 4-5 degrees cooler because of it being open to a cross wind.

It's really to make you aware that the temperature is changing so you aren't caught offguard. This is particularlly important in elevation changes (mountainous terain). The european makers have had temperature alarms for years.

That's not bad...I've gotten "Ice Possible" on the DIC on mild winter days at 52 degrees. After a call to tech support, dealer gave me a bunch of mumbo jumbo about "that's how it's supposed to work". So, if the manufacturer is leaning towards the conservative here, I'd say that is quite a lean, rivals the Leaning Tower of Pisa. But then again, maybe it's just that the H2 is the 8th Wonder of the World

Seriously though, if you notice, the temperature indicator on the rear view mirror is always off, mine by as much as 7 to 8 degrees. So maybe that's the reason for your getting "ice" at 37 degrees?

I get the same thing. Reason is that the temperature may have went below 32 degrees overnight. Even though it may now be 37 degrees it's telling us to be careful.

I think this more confusing than it is helpful, but that's the reason nonetheless.

Look at your thermal dynamics books guys...
when you are geting close to the freezing point, and you have some humitidy in the air and you have some breeze, and the barometric pressure is dropping, you get the heat transfer due to evaporative cooling and adiobatic expansion of gas, both of those can cause ice to form when the air temperature is above freezing. you also have the effect of the land mass radiating heat while the bridge does not have the thermal capacity to keep the ice from forming. Now if you want to check it out, I would suggets that you get a pyrometer that reads accurately a 0 deg C, an accurate charting barometer and charting thermometer. measure the temp over time on land simultaneously with measureing the temp of the bridge. You should be able to prove the above hypothesis.

When this came up a few years ago on another car forum the explanation was that ice can begin forming at 38 degrees fahrenheit. I forget the scientific mumbo jumbo that went along with it...
