Is there any lights (ie. PIAA) to replace the DLRs that will have more power. The size is the problem I am having with finding replacements. Thanks for all your help. Great site.

Cappy:

There are several threads on this. PhilD and I have replaced the crappy H2 DRL's with 03 Lincoln Navigator foglight fixtures. They utilize a 9145 (45W) halogen bulb but can use a 9004 standard high beam bulb, or a blue xenon as Phil has used. It takes only minor modification to the air dam and replacing the bulb pigtail/wiring with a pigtail obtained from a salvage yard. Check out our threads on this and you will see/read all about it. There are also other threads using more expensive fixtures and more difficult installation procedures. Then you need either to jump the DRL's with the parking light relay or wire then to their own circuit/switch so that you can turn them on at night.

I'm suprised that someone has not come out with a replacement set up for these. They have crome everything to no end, but not a replacement DRL housing?

This should be an easy aftermarket idea for someone to come up with.

Capt Chuck,

Hummer Solutions is the only company that I believe has a DRL replacement kit. It includes Cibie off-road/driving lamps which are 3x brighter than PIAA 520's (the bigger lamps) and fit nice. You can't even tell they have been changed out until you turn them on. Then you definitely notice.... These can easily suffice in place of putting lights on your grill guard.

The kit requires some wiring knowledge and you have to cut the backs of the DRL cups.

Here's a link: DRL Kit

Good luck.
