Default Radio Guru Help needed

Hi All,
I have an 05 SUT with the "cheaper" premium sound package (3 eq settings). I bought the "better" premium radio from an earlier (03 I believe) H2, thinking that I'd simply need a Tech-2 to reprogram it. When I attached the Tech-2, it said I needed to send info to SPS. I don't have access.

My question is - what exactly is this doing (no, the radio isn't stolen) but I don't want to pay the dealer if it won't ultimately work in my truck.

Anyone have any experience with this?

I got this thorn in my side after having this premium type radio in my last truck. I don't know if it is even worth the hassle or expense.

TIA for your help!
Dave

If you trying to put a "LUX" radio where a "Non-LUX" radio was I think its alot more trouble than its worth.

The tech2 is needed to unlock it, there VIN coded.

The LUX radio needs all the LUX Bose component options installed the truck to work.

KingVinnie - thanks.

I don't know if it a LUX radio or not, but I forget to mention - it worked for the first 5 seconds or so, then it figured out it was in a different H2 and went "LOCKED"...... Thought that might indicate is was at least the same option radio.

Turn your key to the on position. Pull the radio fuse and put it back in. The stereo will by-pass the vin-lock until you start the car. This will let you know if the stereo will work. If it is a Lux and you didn't have a Lux before you will have to replace the amp for the Lux version. (not worth it). To see if you had a Lux in it check your glove box and see if it shows Y-91 or Y-92. Those are the Lux stereo option numbers. Good Luck!

Thank you audiofetish! Good info.

I finally checked the glove box, it does have a Y-92 option. I'll pop the fuse and swap the radios and see what happens. If it works, I'll at least be able to determine if I want to part with the $$$ to have it reprogrammed.

Thanks again!

No prob..... Don't let them charge you over 1/2 hour. This job only takes 5 minutes. The Chevy dealership (it's closer) wanted 1 hour minimum plus they said that if it didn't work the first time they would charge me an additional hour. . I went to Hummer and they charged me $30.
