I recall awhile back aboot RATTLE in the muffler or cat by some of the Furom members. Apperantly there was a fix (strapping) to it.

Has anyone had this fix??? If so can anyone take a PICTURE of theirs? Mabye it's something I can do myself instead of bringing it back to the dealership.

I was pulling out of parking, just finished a big meeting. About a dozen of my long time clients were standing there admiring my departure. All of a sudden the rattleing/vibration started. They all looked at each other sort of shocked.

BLOODY EMBARRASSING.

Thanks in advance guys/gals. Any pictures will be helpful.

Mine still pops when it is cooling off but it does not rattle.

Cheers

I had two muffler problems, and one was exactly what you are talking about. It made deep vibrating/rattling sounds particularily when going slow with some torque applied. The easiest way for me to replicate it for the dealer was to slightly press the brake while slightly pressing the accelerater (while in Drive).

I can't take a photo for you but I can give the explanation I received from the dealer. They said that it was some sort of plate over (on top) of the muffler. Apparently this "plate" is very close to some other metal (maybe the top of the muffler itself) and that if it gets slightly out of aligmnent/loose then it vibrates against the muffler). They said the design is such that there is a very small amount of space when mounted correctly so a slight offset of the plate will cause it to rattle against the muffler.

The fix is quick as it only took them a few minutes to adjust it. So, I suspect you could do it yourself. My belief is that it happened when they were fixing a separate 'pinging' problem in my muffler. The tolerances (distances) of the moutings are so tight that when they reinsalled by muffler they just messed up the placement by a couple of mm.

CO,

mm??? That's not good. I imagine this will be a problem with most of the guys who go off road then.

I went to Stave Lake last week did some solo off roading. I high centered it once on a rock. Scarred the shyt out of the muffler. I think that's what did it.

Klaus,

Thanks for comming through for me. Many thanks, that`s exactly what I need.

Phil,

Been meaning to check underneath after I powerwash the underside and the weather gets better. I don`t think(hope) there is to much damage. It was just that one misread line. I know it`s stupid going solo but ever since I got the winch, been feeling confident(stupid ) lately. Goin back next week with the Digital Camera.

P.S. Stave Lake is the official Proving Grounds for Land Rover British Columbia so it`s quite easy .

Dennis,

It's not always the heat shield. I had the same rattle that would occur at low rpms. It turned out my offroad trips had pushed the front protective cage up into a portio of the exhaust causing it to rattle. The dealer bent it back out and put a couple shims (spelling?) to give it a little more distance, so I'm sure it's one of these two fixes. Just know that when I went to the dealer they assumed it was the heat shield but it turned out to be due to the offroading.

DennisAJC 10-18-2003 12:49 PM

Buckeye,

I'm sort of lying to myself into believing/hoping initially that it will be an easy fix. Reality is, these things will happen more often during off-road use.

I just don't like the ideal of losing it to the dealership for days if not weeks just to get the rattle repaired. The cost of repairs I anticipated and accepted long before. Looks like the weather today will be quite nice. I'll be crawling under .

that's freakin hilarious what a piece of crap. maybe u should get rid of it and move up to what the germans have....never had a promblem with mine. g500

DRTYFN 10-20-2003 06:33 AM

What a load of crap the G500 is. I defy you to take it 1/2 of the places I've been with mine. Rubicon ring any bells in your empty head? I just got back from running that trail and there's no f*cking way a G-wagen is going through there. I bet you think going across a gravel parking lot is off-roading, don't you, dickweed?

If you hate the H2 so much why don't you go chat with the other wanna-be tools that buy those over-priced non-performing buckets of dump. Oh, that's right, there isn't a site for you to go to, is there? And I don't believe you even have one. And if you do, I feel sorry for you since you threw your money out the window. Unless ,of course, you live in L.A. because that's the ONLY way a little sissy like you is going to even come close to having straight sex. But I bet a little bitch like you probably likes having nice shiny hair from all of the man yogurt you eat, don't you?

Now scurry away, stupid.

Buckeye Hummer 10-20-2003 10:52 AM

DRTYFN,

Must see pics of the trip. What's the ETA?

1BADH2 10-20-2003 12:45 PM

Hey DRTYFN, I couldn't have said it better myself . G-wagon Fag is just pissed because he blew all his money on an over priced piece of German crap that would get stuck on wet grass.

DRTYFN 10-20-2003 01:54 PM

As soon as I resize them and take some still shots out of the video and get a roll of film back i'll post pics.

DennisAJC 10-20-2003 05:14 PM

YES YES! The pics.
