Shorter Antenna

My Antenna on my brand new H3 hits my garage door badly every time I go in and out of it. Can you guys give me any advice/recommendations on either of the following products:

Thanks in advance.......

Re: Shorter Antenna

I have an antennax installed. I didn't like the big whip antenna when I first got my H3.

The shorter antenna works fine. However there will be a reduction of some radio reception, but since I mainly listen to XM it really doesn't matter much to me.

I have the same problem...l have removed the antenna several times since I don't use AM/ FM much. But it also helps to gauge the height of parking garages /etc. I am on the fence about the short antenna.

The long antenna is a great gage for parking garages. It does unnerve you a little bit when you start hitting the ceiling with it, but is better than scraping the roof.

Re: Shorter Antenna

Re: Shorter Antenna

I've tried two of the antenna listed above and I really don't want to knock any brand names or vendors, but they are crappy. The rubber one gets permanently bent like a pretzel as soon as you do 50mph.My best advice is "you get what you pay for".I personally would spend a few extra bucks and purchase a quality item.

I agree, so which "quality" one would you suggest?

Re: Shorter Antenna

Mine hits the bottom of the garage door when I pull in or out. There's nothing for it to snag on, so aside from the clatter, I figure it won't do any harm. I'm in a fringe area and don't want a stub antenna. I worry more about my roof rails, which sometimes catch a little door edge too.

No.

In urban areas, like Denver you really can't hear much of a difference since there are a lot of high powered radio transmitters close around. But out in the sticks (where you're listening to stations further away) the short antenna doesn't do as good. I'd guess at about a 20% - 25% reduction in long range reception.

Re: Shorter Antenna

I have had the antennax one for 9 months now. I never noticed a change in reception quality. I have been pleased with the functionality and the look. No complaints. I have had no problems with reception.

It has not bent either, still straight.

Re: Shorter Antenna

I purchased my stubbie antenna from antenna-x on ebay(about $13.00).
the reception seems to be every bit as good as the factory antenna.
And it's very cool!:D
