Disc Brake Milage

I was wondering what kind of milage any of you are experiencing before you have to change the pads. I'm starting to get a squel out of mine like it's the wear indicators.

Thanks, thought it was a little early with only 15K. Must be dust buildup, I'll take her out and hit em!

Huh, that doesn't sound right.........almost 70,000 miles and still no (knock on wood) problems....

Re: Disc Brake Milage

I have noticed some squeal over the hot summer months after the wheels start to show brake dust. Im guessing that due to the size/weight of the H2 that the pad compound is a bit on the aggressive side... these types of pads will produce a squeal after some dust build up. My stock brakes on my Z06 would start to squeal after about 50 or so miles of hard driving. Probably wouldnt hurt to pull the wheels for inspection (I have seen calipers hang up and prematurely kill a brake pad) but I am willing to bet its nothing to worry about.

I have seen them last for over 200,000 km. they should be taken apart and cleaned from time to time. Lube the slide pins with silglyde(silicone based lube) as well you can lube the backing plates of the pads which will help eliminate squeal caused by the steel pads vibrating against the caliper. Also clean and lube the steel sliders.

I was at my dealer a couple weeks ago (oil Change) and we talked about this very thing. He told me they have changed one set of pads prior to 100,000 miles and it was at 85,000.

Thanks for the replies, I took care of the problem. Tokk her up to 80 mph and hit the brakes as hard as possible. No more squeel!!

The dealer tech swears that they can go 100k. I had them changed around 50k prior to a Moab trip with Lion's Back on the agenda, though. Never can be too careful on that obstacle when it comes to the brakes.

We've never had to replace a set of brake pads on an H2. The ocasional brake squeak is usually fixed the same way you did.
