Speedometer and Speed Sensore help needed!
The speedometer needle in my 2009 H3 is bouncing all over the place. I had this same thing happen in another vehicle I owned and ignored it as everything else was working properly. Eventually, the speedo needle became detached from the speedo and I had a real mess on my hands! The culprit turned out to be the speed sensor!
Well, deja vu!. Can someone please tell me where the speed sensor is for my H3? I want to get it replaced asap before my speedo breaks. Thanks everyone! |

Vehicle speed sensor is on the back right side of transfer case just ahead of the driveshaft output

Re: Speedometer and Speed Sensore help needed!
Do I have to crawl underneath to reach it? Is it easy to get to? Do I have to remove the skid plate to access it? Is there a plug I have to disconnect? Thanks>

Re: Speedometer and Speed Sensore help needed!
I would inspect wiring to the sensor thoroughly before replacing the sensor, more like to have a partial break in a wire than have the sensor go bad. Give the wires at the connector a firm pull and if they start to stretch you have an internal break in the wire. Check for chaffing in the harness as well.

I am not real good at figuring this kind of stuff out. Can you please be a little more discriptive where the speed sensor is? I really appreciate it!

Re: Speedometer and Speed Sensore help needed!
Yes you need to get under it, there is a connector right on the sensor. shouldnt have to remove any skidplates, been awhile since ive seen one personally going by memory

Round sensor on the tailshaft of the transfer case with a 2 wire connector. right side facing about 15 deg down towards the ground
