From what I understand, the factory stereo is programmed to the VIN number for (security reasons) of the vehicle and not interchangeable. You have to get a dealer or someone with tech type two programmer to do the job.

Before you can get the dealer to do, you must be able to prove that the unit is not stolen and I don't know what proof is accepted.

I got this information strait from the dealer while asking about purchasing a six disk unit from GM.
